Medal’s report also went into the rise of “friendslop” games and explained why some titles are more viral than others.

It’s National Video Game Day, and Medal, the clip-sharing platform and application, revealed which games are the most popular among Gen Z and Gen Alpha players. According to Medal's report, some of the top games include Roblox, Minecraft, VALORANT, Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5), and Fortnite.

They were followed by Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), Rocket League, Rainbow Six Siege, League of Legends, and Marvel Rivals. R.E.P.O. made the top 10 in shareability, nudging League of Legends just a bit further down the list.

The rise of friendslop games

According to Medal, "friendslop" games are on the rise. These are games built around fun and shareable moments as opposed to skill. R.E.P.O. and Lethal Company, for example, rose in virality despite lower play counts.

The report also revealed that games with strong social features dominated in terms of play sessions and content creation. As noted, Roblox, Minecraft, and GTA 5 led as the prime examples. Medal then stated that upwards of 80% captured clips came from multiplayer experiences.

Interestingly, the report revealed that despite Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s clippability, it got shared less while Red Dead Redemption 2 gained virality through fewer yet easily shareable moments.
