Hoby Darling becomes president of Riot Games. Dylan Jadeja continues as CEO.

Riot Games announced Hoby Darling as the new president of the company. He will occupy the position that belonged to Dylan Jadeja before taking over as the CEO in 2023. Dylan Jadeja will remain the company's CEO.

Who is Hoby Darling, the new president of Riot Games?

Hoby Darling spent his career "at the intersection of sports, tech, and creative culture, leading brands known for pushing creative and performance boundaries", as you can already read from his new profile in the Riot Games leadership menu. Previously, he worked for Logitech, Nike, Skullcandy/Astro Gaming, and Volcom. As President, Hoby promises to "partner with teams across the company to help Rioters dream big, unlock creativity, and serve players around the world."

The first time I walked into Riot, I felt a scrappy, soulful, and courageous energy I knew I needed to be a part of. I’ve worked with a lot of companies, and there’s something special about a place that takes risks, challenges convention, and stays fiercely committed to its mission. Riot has a long history of creating experiences that truly matter to players, and I couldn’t be more excited to work alongside passionate Rioters who push each other to do their best work every day.

Outside of his work, he loves to run—something he loves to share with the community on this Instagram—and play video games. His favorite games are Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!, Legend of Zelda, and Mortal Kombat. However, he's been loving 2XKO, the new Riot Games fighting game that has yet to be released.

What happened to Dylan Jadeja?

Dylan has been facing a lot of criticism online since he joined Riot Games in 2023. This year, more than 50k people signed a petition demanding his removal from the company. According to the organizers, "under the leadership of Dylan Jadeja, [League of Legends] has been going downhill at an unprecedented rate". They point out many decisions that "prioritize profits over player experience, and the community is tired of being ignored and treated like complete idiots who they only see as numbers to get money from". Players, fans, and even some content creators have spoken out about how badly the company has handled the game.

But, as we said earlier, Dylan Jadeja has not talked about the decision publicly. The only statement comes from Riot Games with a small quote of the CEO talking great things about Hoby Darling's previous work.

What will change?

So far, the community has been posting positive reactions on X. Others are still sceptical about these changes since there is no proof that things will change at all. Many players accused Dylan of taking the company downhill, and are still mad that he keeps having a position within the company. "Now he just needs to be kicked out as CEO, and we might be able to have a decent game again", a player wrote. Another player even "praised God" for making League of Legends "great again".

However, that is something that we will have to see in the future. There is nothing that guarantees us that Riot Games will make "better decisions" or listen to their players' demands. All we can do now is wait to see how Hoby Darling will work as the new president of Riot Games.
