Kratos and his Norse adventures will be retold through a God of War TV series that has been ordered for Amazon Prime Video.

Rumors were floating around for much of 2022 regarding a God of War TV series. With more and more live gaming adaptations arriving, it was only a matter of time before it became a reality. You've got the Halo series, the Uncharted movie, a Gears of War film coming to Netflix, and now a God of War television show greenlit for Amazon Prime Video.

Amazon is bringing God of War to life with Prime Video series

Amazon officially announced the upcoming God of War show with a tweet through Prime Video's Twitter account. The tweet did not provide details about the show, but simply stated that the acclaimed PlayStation franchise will be making its way to the Amazon streaming platform.

A press release provided further news about the series. Rafe Judkins, executive producer of The Wheel of Time, will serve as the showrunner. Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, a duo that worked on Iron Man and The Expanse, will write and produce.

While God of War began with Greek Mythology as Kratos battled against the likes of Zeus and Hades, the show will focus on the recent revival of the franchise. Kratos returned in 2018 with God of War, set in the Norse realms. God of War Ragnarok followed to continue his story. The show will retell the Norse chapter of Kratos' life where he attempted to settle down with a wife and son, only to be forced to fight yet again.

Amazon did not reveal any information pertaining to the cast or a release date. This could mean it is likely in the very early stages of development. Expect Amazon to release more details for the God of War TV series as they come. They'll want to garner as much anticipation as possible from fans of the franchise.
