Farming AP in FF7 Rebirth can’t get any easier or faster than this!
This is bonafide one of the fastest methods, if not the fastest, to farm AP in Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth (FF7 Rebirth). If you need to upgrade your essential Materia as quickly as possible, look no further than this guide. With this method, you can earn up to 50,000 AP in less than two hours. Check it out!
What is the fastest AP-farming method in FF7 Rebirth?
You can call this the "slaying the four horsemen of Gongaga" method. Head to the Cliffside Storehouse in the south corner of the Gongaga region to the right of Phenomenon Intel 1. What makes this location so lucrative for AP farming is the fact that there are four groups of mobs in close proximity. All you have to do is go in a circle, eliminate each group of mobs, save the game, load to respawn the mobs, and repeat. It’s that simple! However, here are some key caveats:
- You must first beat the game
- You need to do this in Chapter 12
After beating the game, you get triple the amount of experience and AP when defeating mobs. As for why you need to do this in Chapter 12, it's so that you can have Cait Sith on the team and not have him miss out on leveling up. Select "System" from the menu and choose Chapter 12 from "Chapter Selection." Make sure to retain quest progression data.
Required accessories and Materia and how to find them
Another thing you need to ensure is having all of the required Materia and accessories. Here is a checklist of the items to help with your AP farming:
Materia/Accessory How to Find Them | Magnify Materia Automatically get one when Cait Sith joins the party for the first time | Fire and Ice Materia Purchase it from Chadley under the Grasslands menu | HP <> MP Materia Pick it up by the Mako Spring inside of the first cave on Mt. Nibel | First Strike Materia Complete Chadley's Battle Intel "Horror on the Range" or "Flower of Destruction" | Chocoking's Cape Complete the "Esoteric Secrets of the Elders" and "Gold Cup or Bust" side quests at Mt. Nibel and Gold Saucer (respectively) |
Equip and link the Magnify Materia with the Fire and Ice Materia as the mobs are mainly weak against ice. With Magnify, you can almost always instantly kill all mobs with one spell cast. The HP <> MP Materia swaps your health and magic points. It is an important Materia to have as it allows you to spam magic attacks without the need to rest or use Ethers. With the First Strike Materia and Chocoking's Cape, you will have two ATBs at the start of battle to cast Blizzaga or Firaga immediately.
While not necessary, you can equip an additional Ice Materia linked with a Swiftcast Materia. This helps you cast Blizzaga faster, making your runs more efficient.

How to use the Gongaga method to farm AP fast in FF7 Rebirth
Once you have all of the required Materia and accessories, you can begin the grind. Aerith will be the best character for this as she has the highest amount of magic damage, so set her as the leader. Start at the gate of the Cliffside Storehouse and cast Blizzaga at the group of Grangalans.
Then take a right and defeat the Frightflowers and Amphidexes. Beware as the Frightflowers are weak against fire instead of ice. There's a chance you won't kill them right away when using Blizzaga. Use your other characters to finish them off.
Keep going in a circle and face the Gagighandis and Chimeras and cast Blizzaga once again. Watch out for Gagighandis trampling towards you.
Next, use Firaga to quickly wipe out two Grandhorns. Be sure to keep your distance so they won't hit you with Lethal Haze.
From here, walk a few steps toward the first spot where the Grangalans were and save the game. Then, reload to respawn all mobs. Rinse and repeat!
Every mob in this run will one-shot you as you have extremely low health due to the HP <> MP swap. Make sure to keep your distance by dodging away or use Aerith's Warp Shift. Her best in-game weapon, Gambanteinn, has Ice Damage Up and Reprieve upgrades available. Reprieve automatically revives you once with one HP when you die in case an enemy manages to hit you.
How much AP you can get from the Gongaga method
The base amount of AP you can get each cycle is 75. You can also net 18,000 experience and 6,600 Gil per run. So this method will surely get your characters to the maximum level of 70 in no time. Finally, while the following Materia and equipment are optional, they can drastically speed up your AP farming. These are AP Up Materia and Chocobo Armband.
The AP Up Materia doubles your AP gain whereas the Chocobo Armband triples that. With these two equipped, you can get 450 AP each cycle. Just be sure to equip the AP Up Materia and the Materia you wish to upgrade inside the Chocobo Armband. You can obtain the Armband after completing the Esoteric Secrets of the Elders side quest. As for AP Up Materias, find them at:
- Old Republic Tunnels inside Mythril Mine
- Chadley's combat simulator "Badlands Beasts”
- Chadley's combat simulator "Chthonian Rondo"
- Gold Saucer's Musclehead Colosseum "Six-Person Bouts: Ululating Quartet"
You may consider EXP Up and Gil Up Materia for the extra experience and money boost. Each cycle takes about a minute to complete depending on how fast you move. Hence, with this method, you can gain up to approximately 27,000 AP in one hour. That's enough AP to farm and max out most of your Materia in FF7 Rebirth! And with that, you are but one step closer to challenging FF7 Rebirth in Hard Mode.
