Ten years later, fans pleas have finally been heard.

Creative Assembly and Sega have announced that a sequel to Alien: Isolation is officially in the works. The original game, which released in 2014, is hugely popular even still. The game spawned countless clips and iconic memes with its unique and terrifying Alien AI mechanics. As a result, fans have been craving a follow up ever since its release.

Alien: Isolation won several awards, including PC Gamers Game of the Year in 2014 and the Audio Achievement award at the 11th British Academy Games Awards.

The Alien franchise has once again been in popular culture, with recent film Alien: Romulus performing better than expected with fans and at the Box Office.

Creative Assembly announce Alien: Isolation sequel to mark ten years since the orginal

We don't know much about this long awaited follow-up, with the game only in early development at this stage. Here is the full statement from Creative Assembly as posted onto their X account:

To our fans around the world:

It’s hard to believe that it has been 10 years since we embarked on our journey with the release of ALIEN: ISOLATION™.

When we started developing ALIEN: ISOLATION, we had one guiding principle: to create a truly authentic experience that went back to the roots of the ALIEN™ franchise – a new story capturing the atmosphere and terror of the original 1979 movie masterpiece.

It’s been nothing short of incredible to witness your passion for the game over the years and see it reach so many players around the world. Your boundless enthusiasm, excitement, screams (!) and steely courage in the face of cinema’s greatest killer, have been profoundly rewarding.

Whether you’re a nightmare mode veteran or stepping into Amanda Ripley’s shoes for that thrilling first attempt (good luck!), we wanted to express our deep gratitude. It was a dream project brought to life by a brilliant team, and the reception you have given it over the years is extraordinary.

On the 10th anniversary, it seems only fitting to let you know that we have heard your distress calls loud and clear.

Today, I’m delighted to confirm, on behalf of the team, that a sequel to ALIEN: ISOLATION is in early development.
We look forward to sharing more details with you when we’re ready.

Once again, thank you.

Until next time,

Al Hope, Creative Director – ALIEN: ISOLATION

When does the Alien: Isolation sequel release?

At the moment, we don't have any details on exactly when the Alien: Isolation sequel might release. However, with the game being only in early development at the moment it would be a surprise to have the game before 2026.

Those who are optimists might hope to have the game in time for their Christmas List next year, but the original Alien: Isolation was first announced in May 2011, and didn't release until October 2014. The game was only a concept at that point, with developers still being hired. It hopefully won't take that long but be prepared to wait.

Where did the original leave us?

The final moments of the original Alien: Isolation ended on a big cliff hanger, so there is absolutely something to work with when Creative Assembly get to work on the story for the new game. We last saw Ripley and the Alien flung into space, for her then to be awoken by a searchlight. We have no idea who she was found by, or how long she was out in Space.

There is also the matter of the huge Alien infestation onboard Sevastopol. Don't forget just how many Aliens there were onboard that ship. Their fate is also unknown.

With so many questions left unanswered, it's a great relief we are getting a sequel to Alien: Isolation so we can finally see how this story progresses.
