SpongeBob and Patrick are coming to Fortnite this Winterfest, except they will not be joining the game as skins.
The time has come. The infamous duo, SpongeBob and Patrick, are officially coming to Fortnite this Winterfest, marking one of the game's most historical collaborations yet. However, these two characters are not coming as skins, but instead as Sidekicks.
So, what does this mean?
What are Sidekicks? And what will SpongeBob and Patrick be doing as one?
Sidekicks are a newer addition to Fortnite. Like Back Blings, Sidekicks serve no purpose other than to look cool with your skin. However, unlike Back Blings, Sidekicks do not just sit on your back but can follow you around, doing emotes with you and more. They provide no actual tactical advantage and are just fun to have at your side.
So, what purpose will SpongeBob and Patrick be serving when walking across the game's map with you? Well, I guess they are mainly there for moral support when you are attempting to get that Victory Royale.
With so many new skins coming to the game this Winterfest, SpongeBob and Patrick only being Sidekicks is a bit disheartening, but it still offers a fun and unique way to use the popular characters.
The two will provide commentary (which will probably be hilarious) and put up different emotes. Regardless of whether or not you wanted the two to be a skin in the game, this is still a great way to include both SpongeBob and Patrick in Fortnite.
About Fortnite Winterfest
Some of you may be wondering just what Winterfest in Fortnite is. Well, every year around the Holidays, Fortnite paints the map in white snow and offers various new skins, many of them Christmas-themed. This year, we have Harry Potter, a Christmas-themed Sabrina Carpenter and more coming to the game.
Not every skin will be Christmas themed; however, for instance, it does not seem like the yellow sponge and pink starfish will be getting a Christmas or holiday theme, alongside many other collaborations coming to the game this Winterfest, like Bleach.
While many of these skins will be purchasable during Winterfest, some will come free for players to open (only one a day) at the Winterfest Lodge.
