Fortnite officially discontinues V-Bucks cards

It is officially the end of an era. Fortnite, the popular Battle Royale video game, has officially announced it will be discontinuing V-Bucks cards. These purchasable cards have been in stores since the beginning, almost eight years ago.

Walking into a Walmart or Target and grabbing a V-Bucks card for yourself or a friend was always a great feeling. However, this action will now be a story of the past, as players will not be able to purchase V-Bucks cards in the future.

But does this mean V-Bucks will no longer be in the game? No, do not worry. V-Bucks will remain in Fortnite and continue to serve as the game's primary currency.

And luckily, the game is offering a replacement for V-Bucks cards, meaning there will be a way soon to get V-Bucks from physical purchases in retail stores such as Walmart, Target, Gamestop and more.

Fortnite is not just ridding the world of V-Bucks cards and putting nothing in their place. The popular game announced today (June 4, 2025) that new Fortnite gift cards will be hitting stores soon, which contain V-Bucks.

However, these new gift cards won't be like V-Bucks cards, where specific gift cards give you specific V-Bucks. Instead, each card will come with no V-Bucks on it, and the buyer will load the card with the currency upon purchasing it.

Fortnite gift cards can be purchased from $15 all the way to $150, allowing players a plethora of V-Bucks. These cards will be available online and at all major retail stores.
