The future of Fortnite is clearer following the State of Unreal 2024 showcase hosted by Epic Games. It's no secret that the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) toolset is the present and future of the game from every standpoint.

Map creators and design studios have been crafting brilliant experiences for players, but many have wondered what's next. The State of Unreal 2024 answered many questions while teasing Ninjago in LEGO Fortnite, a first-person game mode, and much more.

First person Fortnite set to arrive in 2024

Leakers have teased a first-person game mode for over a year, but nothing has yet to materialize. The State of Unreal 2024 showcase indicated this perspective will arrive in Fortnite this year. Information beyond a tentative release date is sparse, but a "first-person camera" view is in the works.

Fall Guys will be playable in Fortnite soon using UEFN

Shortly after announcing the first person camera view, the showcase revealed that Falls Guys assets are coming to Fortnite. This crossover will allow map makers to craft Fall Guys stages using UEFN and Fortnite objects like Launch Pads.

Future Fortnite seasons 2025 to be developed in UEFN

Epic Games plans to go all-in on UEFN, which means the developers will use the toolset to build future Fortnite Battle Royale seasons beginning in 2025. As explained during the showcase, this decision will allow Epic Games to expand UEFN beyond its current limitations and allow creators to develop experiences similar to Battle Royale using UEFN.'

LEGO Fortnite to get new islands and a Ninjago collaboration

The highly anticipated LEGO Fortnite game mode debuted to open Chapter 5. The State of Unreal 2024 showcase gave fans a glimpse into what's on the horizon, including a Ninjago collaboration. Ninjago is a LEGO-based animated series with a large following, and it will be a massive addition to Fortnite.

Additionally, Epic Games announced that the following game modes are heading to LEGO Fortnite soon:

  • Prop Hunt
  • Battle Arena
  • Cat Island Adventure

Fortnite returns to iOS in 2024

Amid all the UEFN Fortnite news, Epic Games officially announced Fortnite's long-awaited return to iOS. The developers have been infamously locked into a legal battle with Apple for several years. As a result, Fortnite's absence from the Apple Store began in August 2020. Recently, it's become clear that Fortnite's return to iOS is imminent and will occur in 2024.
