Who is Jonesy in Fortnite? And where did the iconic character come from?

If you play Fortnite, you have probably heard about Jonesy. In fact, I bet my life savings (don't worry, it's not much) you HAVE heard about Jonesy. The iconic character has been a staple within the Battle Royale for the last seven years, making him well-known to everyone in the community. So, where did Jonesy come from? And why is he so relevant in Fortnite?

Let's take a look at the history of Jonesy, Fortnite's most iconic character.

From Default skin to main character: Jonesy makes himself relevant in Fortnite

In the beginning, there was nothing. Then, Epic Games said, "Let there be Default skins." These Default skins became a reference for various other skins in Fortnite, but the first variation of them was just people dressed in clandestine-like clothing.

One of these Default skins, was the beginning look of Jonesy, aka John Jones. At first, there was really no storyline for this character. It was just a random skin people could cycle through if they did not own a purchasable skin in the game's Item Shop.

This was only the beginning, though, as Jonesy quickly found himself as a main character heading into the next few seasons of Chapter 1.

Chapter 1

Jonesy's storyline did not necessarily begin in Chapter 1, but the game provided us with different variations of the skin throughout the Chapter. The Loop, which is an endless time loop in Fortnite, created different forms of the character, which became skins for players to use throughout Fortnite's first chapter.

And while skins such as Bunker Jonesy became super popular, the character also served as the base for some of the game's most iconic skins, such as the Skull Trooper skin, the Renegade skin and more.

It was not until Chapter 2, however, that Jonesy really got his storyline to ramp up.

Chapter 2

In Chapter 2, Season 2, we finally saw more of Jonesy, as Midas decided to take over the island. Jonesy's primary goal was to get the island out of the hands of Midas and his henchman, making what people refer to as "Agent Jones."

This was a big start for Jonesy's storyline, and it gave us the iconic variation of the skin, which was Jonesy in a slim suit.

The character helped fight against the tyrannies that sought to take over the island, but it wasn't long before Jonesy was overpowered by the Zero Point.

With the character going dark, we then got a look at The 7, a popular organization of men and women tasked with saving the island. And yes, this is when Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson entered the game.

Chapter 3

At the start of Chapter 3, Jonesy was nowhere to be found (other than Castaway Jonesy). The character did not play a role whatsoever in the first season to Chapter 3, and had seemed to have completely gone missing because of the Zero Point.

Then, in Season 2, the infamous character made his return.

Jones Unchained, which showed Jonesy wearing a prison uniform, came to the island. The character had freed himself and was ready to fight alongside The Foundation. The characters then raced together to the top of The Collider, where they fought off IO forces together.

However, after this battle, Jonesy went missing again and did not show up throughout the entirety of Chapter 4.

Chapter 5

Let's skip ahead to Chapter 5, where Jonesy made his return to the game. However, this was not a glorious return like usual. Instead, Jonesy joined the game as a Vengeance Jones.

I'm sure you can connect the dots here, as Vengeance Jones sought out to seek vengeance on the enemies who had forsaken him. Chapter 5 was the beginning of the Train in Fortnite, too, making Jonesy's storyline all the more interesting.

The character worked alongside Hope, a new character introduced during Chapter 5, Season 1, making them both unlikely allies.

From different heists to battles amongst Greek Gods, Chapter 5 became a huge staple within the Fortnite community as one of the most diverse chapters in the game's history.

The character also made a quick appearance during Chapter 5, Season 4, the game's second Marvel Season, as Captain Jones. This was less about the storyline and more about giving Jonesy a Captain America variation.

Chapter 6

Chapter 6 has still been all about vengeance, as Vengeance Jones has stayed very relevant throughout the season.

Quite a bit is going on, and we are only in Season 2 at the moment, allowing anything to happen. Will we get a new form of Jonesy here soon? Or is Vengeance Jones here to stay?
