Red Bull’s Fightalytics covers the Summer of Bonchan

Red Bull Gaming’s Fightalytics looks into how Bonchan got his wings

Red Bull Gaming and Panda Global have teamed up to present the FGC with some brand new analytical content. Their new series, Fightalytics, is meant to breakdown the highest level of fighting game play so that anyone can understand. The series will focus on the highest level of fighting game players from around the world. Next to go under the microscope in Fightalytics is Masato "Bonchan" Takahashi.

Who is Bonchan?

Masato "Bonchan" Takahashi is one of the greatest Street Fighter players in the world. Unlike many of the Japanese pro players, Bonchan is a newer face to the scene, starting in Street Fighter IV. He used to be a worker in a Mahjong parlor looking to go pro, but decided to change his path when he met the legend Daigo Umehara. Daigo took Bonchan under his wing and mentored him to become one of the best Street Fighter players in the world.

Bonchan's Summer of Dominance

The Summer of 2019 was undoubtedly the peak of Bonchan's Street Fighter V career. Bonchan went and took four major CPT events in a row, a feat only matched by Justin Wong at the start of Street Fighter V's life. These major wins included EVO, and CEO, a triumph considering that the last person to win both Street Fighter tournaments was Xian in 2013 playing Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition 2012.

The latest episode of Fightalytics takes a deeper look at how Bonchan changed his style and adapted to the new game of Street Fighter V, as well as the decisions he made to take all four events in a clean sweep of the most dominant Summer of professional Street Fighter V. What's Next?

Fightalytics has now covered both Daigo and Bonchan, two of Street Fighter's top level competitors. Following these three episodes, the next three will focus on others areas of the FGC. Red Bull has yet to reveal what they've got coming up, but we can't wait for more Fightalytics!
