Esports content will now resemble TV shows!

MGM Alternative is a division of Amazon MGM Studios, the producer of some renowned TV shows like The Voice, Shark Tank, and Survivor. Starting Jan. 19, they are also going to be the masterminds behind most of the Global Esports Federation gaming content and live events.

GEF was involved in the Commonwealth Esports Championships and typically hosts National World Cup-style tournaments. Their latest event was the Riyadh 2023 Global Esports Games, featuring qualifiers worldwide for Dota 2, eFootball 2023, PUBG Mobile, and Street Fighter 6.

What can we expect from this partnership?

This year, Global Esports Games has announced that they will host their next event in China. Following this, their subsequent events will head to the UAE in 2025, the USA in 2026, and Qatar in 2027.

Amazon's MGM Alternative General Manager, Barry Poznick, said they are "eager to share the stories and excitement surrounding the Global Esports Games, their athletes, and the gaming lifestyle." According to this, we may be able to take a deeper look into the pro players' lives as their stories develop during the GEF tournaments.

On this matter, Paul J. Foster, GEF Chief Executive Officer, also said "This collaboration will amplify the voices of diverse esports athletes, showcasing their compelling stories to the world."

The Global Esports Federation has not yet announced the date of their first piece of content, but we can expect them to start with the previously mentioned GEG China 2024.

GEF is also responsible for the biggest Women Dota 2 Competition, which saw Team Malaysia crowned after beating the Peruvian Team. Team Argentina got the Bronze medal after defeating Chile.

Amazon's venture into Esports content

Amazon already owns the leader streaming platform for Esports events: Twitch. Aside from that, we found they have an ongoing partnership with University Esports, a competition featuring over 1,300 universities around the world.

The Amazon MGM Alternative's move comes during rough times for Twitch. A few days ago, Twitch's CEO Dan Clancy said the streaming platform was "not profitable", a problem they've had for years.

Hopefully, this partnership will help Amazon recover some grounds in the Esports ecosystem.
