Wednesday returns this August with more horror, dark humor, and twisted Addams family antics. What’s in store for Season 2?
Our mysterious and weird Wednesday is returning to our screens soon. After an incredible first season with 341.2 million hours viewed in the first week of release, most for any English-language series at the time, Wednesday also became the second most-watched English-language Netflix series ever in January 2023, right after Stranger Things 4. Two years later, the show is coming back with another season.
Wednesday Season 2 cast
Jenna Ortega, of course, is coming back to play her iconic character. "Wednesday Addams is one of the coolest characters of all time, so to have gotten the opportunity to play her once was incredible, and then to be able to slip into the costume and tone again, it’s so much fun", Jenna said in an interview with MTV News in 2022. Aside from the main character, the majority of the cast is coming back for their roles:
- Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams
- Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams
- Isaac Ordonez as Wednesday's little brother, Pugsley
- Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay
- Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair
- Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Deputy Ritchie Santiago
- Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin
- Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester
- Jamie McShane as Sheriff Galpin
- Moosa Mostafa as Eugene Otinger
Missing from the cast is Naomi J. Ogawa, who played Yoko Tanaka. She is not coming back for Season 2 due to scheduling conflicts and a lack of character development opportunities, as she expressed on her social media.
According to the actress, it was a very difficult decision, but "necessary under the circumstances." Also missing from the cast is Percy Hynes White, who played Xavier Thorpe. In 2023, the actor faced allegations of sexual assault, which drew a lot of controversy online. He denied all the accusations, but was cut from the show.
Lady Gaga is coming to the show
A major surprise for Wednesday Season 2 is the addition of Lady Gaga. According to Variety, the show's creators initially hoped to cast her in a larger role, but scheduling conflicts made that impossible. Still, she’ll be making an appearance in some capacity, though details remain tightly under wraps.
In a March interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lady Gaga teased her involvement but kept things vague: “I don’t want to give away anything about being part of the show. I want to keep it extra secret — but I love Jenna, and I really had an amazing time!” Her comments hint at strong on-set chemistry with Jenna Ortega, but beyond that brief statement, her character and storyline are still a mystery. For now, fans will have to wait and see how Gaga fits into the eerie world of Wednesday.

What can we expect in the next season?
The Wednesday Season 2 trailer kicks off with a bang as we see Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday at the airport, casually unloading her oversized arsenal of personal weapons. And in a hilarious moment, Thing even smuggles in sunscreen — clearly not quite grasping the whole “undead aesthetic.” It’s an absurd and perfect nod to the show’s offbeat humor.
Soon after, the Addams family arrives in Jericho to drop off Pugsley, Wednesday’s younger brother, who’s now enrolling at Nevermore Academy. The scene mirrors Wednesday’s own arrival in Season 1, hinting that the next chapter might explore more of the Addams family dynamics.
Season 2 promises to keep the show’s signature blend of fantasy, horror, mystery, and dark comedy alive. We’ll get to look deeper into Wednesday and Enid’s adorably bizarre friendship, while also spending more time with the delightfully twisted Addams clan. The trailer teases tense moments packed with monsters, magic, and long-buried secrets. As Wednesday herself ominously declares, “Wherever there's murder and mayhem, you will always find an Addams."
A darker twist in the story
In 2023, Jenna Ortega revealed her desire to have a darker Wednesday than what we saw in the first season. “I think I want it to continue down an anti-hero stream rather than a typical hero," she said on her appearance at The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon back in March 2023. From the looks of the trailer, Jenna's desires might be coming to reality.
According to an interview with Collider this year, Jenna revealed that Wednesday season 2 will feature “a whole episode based on slashers," too. We can expect a lot more action and focus on the horror side instead of the romantic side. "I think we want to up the horror aspect of it a little bit and then get Wednesday out of the romantic situation and just let her be her own individual and fight her own crime," Jenna stated.
When will Wednesday Season 2 come out?
Wednesday will return to our screens in two parts: the first part will air on Aug. 6 while the second part will arrive on Sept. 3. Initially, the season was going to be filmed in Romania. However, due to "logistical challenges," they moved the location to Ireland. Wednesday will air exclusively on Netflix.
So far, there is still no confirmation about a possible renewal for a third season. However, the co-showrunners Miles Millar and Al Gough revealed some ideas of extending the show for more seasons to explore other characters' storylines, especially the Adams family ones. In an interview with Variety, Miles Millar revealed a they would always create a show to give more to the fans.
"That’s never expected, but that’s the anticipation that hopefully the show is successful. So you always lay out at least three or four seasons’ worth of potential storylines for the characters. It can evolve and change. Often, you want to see which characters or cast pop and who you like to write for. So you want to keep it open and organic enough to change it and evolve, but we certainly have a pretty clear runway of what we want to do in future seasons," he added.
