OG may not have a proper Dota 2 roster, but that hasn’t stopped N0tail from returning to the team as he takes on the head coach role.

It has been a long time since the name OG has struck fear into the hearts of Dota 2 teams across the world. However, all of that is set to change, as Johan “N0tail” Sundstein has announced that he will be returning to the team. Although this time, he will be in a completely different position. Albeit, one that he has been in before with OG.

N0tail returns to guide OG to The International (hopefully)

Ever since The International (TI) 2019, OG has been far from their best. After the likes of Sébastien Félix “Ceb” Albert Debs and Jesse “JerAx” Vainikka left, things seemed to go downhill. While the team itself did return to TI in 2021, it was with a few missing components of their two-time back-to-back winning puzzle. Even so, N0tail was there, but could only manage a seventh/eighth place finish.

While he played with OG (or Old G, if you will) at the DPC Western Europe 2023 Tour 1 Qualifier, they did not get very far. And thus, N0tail faded into our memories – until now.

Announced via the OG Esports X account, N0tail would be returning to OG. This time, he would be taking on the job of head coach. However, this would not be his first time coaching the team that he co-founded. Back in 2022, Johan managed to take a new OG roster through the ESL One Stockholm event and raise the trophy as coach.

Although he did not remain in this role for very long, his return signals the return of OG to their best, or at least we hope it does.

OG's new roster and TI

In his short video, N0tail commented on how he wants to approach the team and his vision for the future.

Hello, everyone. Johan here with an update about the team, about Dota.

We’re starting anew. Starting with a new project. I’m going to be leading the ship as the coach. Also trying to put the project together. I guess, leading the charge.

I got really inspired by the Wallachia tournament, the Romanian tournament I went to. And I’ve been playing Dota since December. I feel like I never got any worse. I only got better. So, I felt a surge of motivation to do more and to also, I think, get a bit closer with the game. Even though I never stopped watching, I obviously stopped playing.”

N0tail continued, mentioning that the full roster is not yet complete. However, he adds that it is almost there.

“I’m trying to build this team a lot on communication. But also, the ability to speak about the game, strategize about the game, and still play at a high level. But also, just playing the game with words and not really having to go through testing everything.”

Johan ended the video by confirming that the new team’s goal, as with any Dota 2 team, is to reach the hallowed grounds of TI.

It will be interesting to see who is on the new OG roster, and we hope that they can give us the same entertainment and heart-wrenching moments as the TI-winning roster did. We will have more information on the team when it becomes available.
