During the 2023 Riyadh Masters, Arteezy shared his opinion regarding the Twin Gates and the notorious Tormentors.

It has been almost three months since Patch 7.33 dropped, introducing a plethora of new elements in Dota 2. This includes Lotus Pools, Wisdom Runes, Twin Gates, and the notorious Tormentor. During the ongoing Riyadh Masters, Shopify Rebellion's carry player, Artour "Arteezy" Babaev, shared his opinion regarding some of these additions.

I still really hate this Tormentor thing. I find it so weird that they exist. I still can't figure out if it's ever worth it to kill it or not.

Arteezy comments on the Twin Gates and Tormentors

Shopify Rebellion is currently in full force at the ongoing Riyadh Masters, a $15 million Dota 2 tournament. Following an on-stage game two victory against Tundra Esports, Arteezy spent a few minutes in a post-match interview session.

Host Neal "Tsunami" Khandheria asked him his thoughts regarding the patch right now with all the new elements and infrastructure. Arteezy shared that he was at first skeptical about the addition of Twin Gates. The massive teleport gates are indeed game-changing and Arteezy said it took a long time for him to get used to it.

When the patch came out, I thought the Gates were really stupid. I would say that my mind has changed. The Gates have added a unique part and they changed the game, and that's probably at first why I didn't like the change. Cause that's usually how it works. They introduce such a big concept and it takes such a long time to get used to it. So I thought the Gates were annoying at first.

The North American player has accepted the Twin Gates, but there is one unique structure that he still can't understand. It is none other than the Tormentor, a stationary "neutral creep" that hosts plenty of Aghanim Shards.

I still really hate this Tormentor thing, I find it so weird that they exist. I still can't figure out if it's ever worth it to kill it or not. (Tsunami: "That's such a carry thing to say!) I feel like the only time I really want to do it is if I'm [Templar Assassin] or something. It's only for the gold,

A little Tormentor breakdown

The Tormentors are definitely a unique addition to the game. It gives a free Aghanim's Shard to a random player in the team and also rewards each player additional gold and experience. But the effort to take a Tormentor is quite excruciating.

Almost your entire team has to move to the Tormentor's location, much like taking down a Roshan, and share colossal damage together. This also means you need extra regen, by purchasing regen or retreating back to base. This can disrupt movement and farming pattern, especially for core players.

One can argue that the time and energy consumed to take down a Tormentor is justified - or not. But the answer likely relies on the draft and the necessity of it in your current game.
