As it goes every year, Valve's prestigious The International (TI1) tournament is set to bring together passionate cosplayers for TI12 Cosplay Contest. The event which finally returns to Seattle after five years will also offer more than $20,000 in prize money for the Cosplay Contest. More info below!

When is the TI12 Cosplay Contest?

The Cosplay Contest will run during TI12 Main Event in Seattle, Washington from October 26 to 29. PGL divides the contest into two phases - the Judging Event and the Winner Presentation.

The Judging Event will take place on October 26 and it might also extend to the next two days depending on the number of contestants.

All winners must attend the Winner Representation rehearsal on October 28 and the Winner Representation itself on October 29.

TI12 Cosplay Contest prizes and categories

This year sees a bigger prize pool in the Cosplay Contest when compared to the previous year which held $15,000 USD in prize money. For TI12 Cosplay Contest, PGL x SteelSeries will distribute a total of $20,000 USD to winners.

The $20,000 will go to ten total winners with six being "runner-ups" and four being "Skill Winners". On top of that, the ten winners will also have a chance to win additional prizes for unique categories which are:

  • Best In Show Award = $5,000 + Full set of SteelSeries Gear + 2 General Admission Tickets
  • Best Technique Award = $3,000 + Full set of SteelSeries Gear + 2 General Admission Tickets
  • Biggest Transformation Award = $3,000 + Full set of SteelSeries Gear + 2 General Admission Tickets
  • Judges' Choice Award = $3,000 + Full set of SteelSeries Gear + 2 General Admission Tickets
  • 6 Runners Up = $1,000 + SteelSeries Headset + 2 General Admission Tickets

Rules and guidelines

Here are some of the most important rules that you need to know before registering for the Cosplay Contest. You can find a complete list of TI12 Cosplay Contest rules and guidelines here.

  • Be 18 years or older as of 1 September 2023
  • Have a registered Steam account with Tax Information forms completed
  • Valid submissions must contain a character or likeness to a character from the DOTA 2 game and be appropriate for all audiences.
  • It is not allowed to enter the competition with handcrafted costumes designed by somebody else. Handmade accessories designed by third parties are allowed in so much as they do not represent more than 20% of the finished costume.
  • Contestants in attendance at The International in Seattle Washington for the Judging Event on 26/27/28/29October. Finalist must also attend the Winner Presentation Event on 28/29 October.
  • Contestants are not allowed to register for the 2023 edition of the Competition with the same costumes they registered and competed with at a previous edition.

Do I need a TI ticket to compete in the Cosplay Contest?

Contestants do not need a TI ticket to attend the Cosplay Contest. PGL states that "contestants without The International entrance tickets will be granted admission for the two Contest events."
