Go to hell and back for a chance at having your named etched in glory.

Ready to go to hell and back? If you consider yourself a hardcore Diablo fan then Blizzard has the appropriate masochistic challenge for you. Announced yesterday as part of the release of Diablo 4, the developer is planning on putting the names of the first 1,000 players to hit level 100 on hardcore mode upon the face of a beautiful trophy. The play period will take place during Diablo 4's early access launch beginning on June 1.

Easy enough, right? Play your little video game, get your battletag put on a statue. Well... About that.

How hardcore is the Diablo 4 Hardcore trophy?

While stipulations, terms, and conditions always apply, the route to getting your name on the Diablo 4 Hardcore Mode trophy is simple. According to Blizzard, the player must reach "a character level of 100 in “hardcore mode” on Diablo IV and have earned the “Tempered Champion” title in-game." As for hardcore mode... That's the trickier part.

Simply put, hardcore mode means you cannot die even once. Much like the talked about World of Warcraft hardcore mode realms, permadeath floats over your hardcore character like a spectre. This should terrify even the most hardcore gamer, as hardcore mode also features the game's highest difficulty setting. However, that does come with increased rewards and drop rates.

So, you know, no big deal. Just don't die and the Diablo 4 hardcore trophy shall be adorned with your name. Personally, I've beaten Super Mario Bros. 3 by using only one warp whistle, so I think I've got this in the bag.

Be quick, as it probably won't take long for 1,000 players to grind their butts off for a taste of glory.

Diablo 4 releases to early access on June 1.
