The growing playerbase of Deadlock is concerned about how Valve will deal with cheaters.

Valve's new game Deadlock, a mixture of a hero shooter and a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA), already has plenty of cheats despite being in early development.

Over the past few days, the rise of cheaters in Deadlock has become a hot topic in the community as players are concerned about Valve's capability to handle cheaters swiftly. Anyone who's played CS:GO or CS2 in the past years knows how Valve can't stop spin botters and wallhackers from plaguing the game's official servers.

One recent post about cheaters on Deadlock's subreddit gathered over 600 comments as people discussed footage of players blatantly using aimbot. While I didn't see any player running aimbot on my Deadlock matches, I was sure a player was using wallhack the other day as they always had good timings and reads.

And, to make matters worse, there's not an option to directly report cheaters in Deadlock for now, as the game is still in its early development build. There is, however, a way to report them via the game's official Discord server.

How to report cheaters in Deadlock

As of now, the only way to report cheaters in Deadlock is via Discord. If you come across someone using cheats in Deadlock, here are the step-by-step instructions on how to report them:

  1. Launch Deadlock and you'll see a button to join the Discord on the main menu. After you click it, you'll gain an invite link and all you have to do is copy and paste it on Discord.
  2. Once you're inside of the official Deadlock Discord server, access #Reports on the left-side corner.
  3. Use the !cheats command to type a message and report someone for using cheats in Deadlock. Your message must contain the hero, matchID, and the type of cheat with timestamps included. If you want to, you can also link a video containing evidence, which will accelerate the process of banning the player.

What type of cheats exist for Deadlock?

  • Wallhack: Allows players to see through walls and simply gather information or even give them insight to shoot other people through walls.
  • Aimbot: This hack makes players shoot automatically at others with great accuracy. There are variations of aimbot in which players also spin automatically while shooting to make it harder for them to get killed.

As Deadlock gets older, cheat developers will likely create more hacks, especially given how unique the game is in terms of heroes.

Is Deadlock's future in danger because of cheaters?

As much as the playerbase has the right to be concerned about Deadlock given Valve's stance — or lack of it — against cheaters in CS2, it's still too soon to be worried about Deadlock's future. The game is still in early development and the servers aren't even protected by Valve's Anti-Cheat (VAC).

For now, it's probably better to wait and see what Valve does in the future rather than judging based on other experiences.
