Big teams with shaky performance can re-build their confidence at this CS2 esports event. However, deep changes in the reload system may shuffle the power balance — and boost smaller underdogs to the top!

PGL Bucharest 2026 starts with the Swiss Stage matches. This tournament phase goes on from April 4 to April 8. Only eight out of 16 teams can make it to the playoffs and battle for the sweet $200,000 for the winners.

The biggest thrill of this Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) tournament is the top-level use of the recently updated reload mechanic. Valve has changed the ammo reserve for some popular weapon picks, including the AWP. Alongside with losing the remaining bullets during reloading, this update strongly affects in-game habits of pro players.

Some of the top teams with recent performance issues have a chance to recover and shine with their best skills at PGL Bucharest 2026: FaZe Clan and The MongolZ. PARIVISION can prove stability of their results — in the pool with no top opponents in sight. Astralis, Legacy, and 3DMAX are among the strong contenders to break their limits with this new system.

Analysis of the favorites and promising underdogs

The top favorites of the Swiss Stage and the entire PGL Bucharest 2026 are PARAVISION. Their results in the beginning of this season are hands down phenomenal: victory at BLAST Bounty Winter, the grand final at IEM Krakow, and the top 4 at BLAST Open Rotterdam. PARAVISION are still not the most stable team, as they have had weird drops, like not qualifying for the main event of EPL Season 23.

The MongolZ also have favorable chances to qualify for the PGL Bucharest 2026 playoffs quickly — according to most CS2 esports betting sites.  The team still has clear troubles after substantial roster changes, and playing on the new reload patch is a real opportunity for The MongolZ to reshape their competitive might.

PGL Bucharest 2026 brings some hope for FaZe Clan fans. The performance of the Budapest Major grand finalists has been disastrous in the new CS2 esports season. Regardless of your personal feelings about FaZe, for healthy competition, we need this organization to do well at least at this level of event.

The newest Astralis roster demonstrated a decent potential at a few recent tournaments. With a lower level of opponents, they have a good chance for the trophy — and certainly, for a playoff spot. Their most recent achievement is the top 3 at the ESL Pro League Season 23.

S1mple and other underdogs

We haven’t seen the new team of Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev, BC.Game Esports, playing at the top level since Intel Extreme Masters in Kraków. Well, PGL Bucharest 2026 is exactly such an opportunity. Considering the level of play BC.Game have been demonstrating, reaching the playoffs would be an achievement for them.

Legacy has made great progress at the recent big CS2 esports tournament: the top 8 at EPL Season 23. They are among promising underdogs in Bucharest, bringing the power of Brazilian Counter-Strike to the tournament.

FUT Esports have become the best breakthrough team in the category of young competitors. This roster is basically the former NAVI Junior team. The players compete decently and defeat some pretty big opponents: the top 4 at EPL S23 is a great result, and we can expect more from FUT.

3DMAX is generally a very interesting team to follow, thanks to their signature aggressive playstyle. The new reload system requires special adaptation from 3DMAX players, which may lead to an even bigger results drop or to nice progress at PGL Bucharest 2026.

The playoffs at Counter-Strike 2 PGL Bucharest 2026 happen throughout two days, on April 10 and 11. The intense schedule includes the quarterfinals, semifinals, third-place final, and grand final. There’s a lot of CS2 to enjoy on one weekend! Having no matches on Sunday is an attempt of the organizers to make some space ahead of the next big tournament, as IEM Rio 2026 starts on April 13.
