BLAST.tv’s Austin Major 2025 brought us the battle of the Brazilians, as paiN Gaming took on FURIA in the second series of the playoffs.

paiN Gaming and FURIA took to the stage at the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025, as they both fought for their tournament lives. With a single elimination bracket taking hold of the playoffs, both teams had one chance to move forward. After a magnificent series between MOUZ and Team Spirit to kick off the Major, paiN and FURIA were next to battle. The winner would move forward into the semi-finals, where they await their next challenger, either FaZe Clan or The MongolZ.

For both paiN and FURIA, there has not been a whole lot to scream about for some time. FURIA’s brilliant performance at the recent PGL Astana 2025 saw them finish in fourth place. On the other hand, paiN has not had any extremely strong performances for 2025. Their highest placement was fifth to eighth at PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 back in February.

With that in mind, two of the best teams out of South America went head-to-head. As only one could survive, it made for a fantastic fight between two Brazilian beasts.

Heading into the series, both teams knew full well that a best-of-three was all that stood in the way of them and the top 4 or elimination. Map choice would be of utmost importance for the two Brazilian squads, and as such, they went ahead with the following choices:

  • paiN removed Train
  • FURIA removed Ancient
  • paiN picked Nuke
  • FURIA picked Anubis
  • FURIA removed Mirage
  • paiN removed Dust2
  • Inferno was left over

paiN Gaming wins a thrilling Brazilian battle

FURIA came out fighting on the paiN map of choice, Nuke. After taking the pistol round on the Counter-Terrorist (CT) side, FURIA took control before the half. While paiN managed to pull a few rounds back in their favor, the first map was never in their control. The second half secured the map for FURIA as they closed it out 13-6.

Map 2, FURIA’s choice, seemed to be where paiN finally found their footing. Anubis would see the team take 9 rounds into the second half, and it seemed as though they were on course for a tied series. Thanks to some amazing clutches from David “dav1deUS” Maldonado, paiN was in a great spot. Although it all unraveled for a short time once FURIA took to the Terrorist (T) side, paiN held on to secure a 13-8 victory on map 2.

After a magnificent Anubis from paiN, nothing went right on Inferno when map 3 began. FURIA took the first 6 rounds without a response. But paiN was not ready to give up, as they fought back from what seemed like the brink of doom to make it 5-7 before the switch. The second half saw a whole new version of paiN coming out, as they locked in to turn the game on its head. With FURIA staring defeat in the face, they came to life and secured overtime.

paiN came out swinging in overtime, dominating FURIA as they marched towards a certain victory. Although they had victory snatched away from them during normal time, overtime was a breeze, as they secured a huge win.
