NAVI overtakes G2 in BLAST Premier Spring Groups cover image

NAVI is now in the grand final of group C of the BLAST Premier Spring Groups.

NAVI won the second game in BLAST Premier Spring Groups, this time against G2. Both teams were coming off victories in yesterday's games. NAVI won their inaugural match against Complexity while G2 overtook NIP relatively easily. A victory in this match would put the team in the grand final, fighting for a place in the Spring Final.

In an interview with BLAST before the game, G2's new coach, Wiktor "TAZ" Wojtas said he expects the team to win the group and that he expects nothing less from his teams. Unfortunately, today was not the day when G2 would win their match over NAVI.

NAVI vs G2 (Overpass, Inferno and Anubis)

Overpass was chosen by NAVI, Inferno by G2 and Anubis as the map to decide the series to count towards BLAST Premier Spring Groups.

Overpass

The series between the two powers started in Overpass with great performances from several players. On the G2 side, Ilya 'm0NESY' Osipov and Nikola 'NiKo' Kovač were in great form. On the NAVI side, the young Ukrainian duo of Ihor 'w0nderful' Zhdanov and Valeriy 'b1t' Vakhovskiy didn't disappoint either.

m0NESY was unstoppable with the Desert Eagle in Overpass. First in the second round force in the first half by eliminating three opponents alone with the weapon. His heroics were instrumental in keeping G2 in contention. He ended the map with 25 kills equalling an impressive performance by NiKo.

Later in the match, the 18-year-old player entered with the weapon and three HS eliminations increasing the player's prominence on the map.

After equal results in both halves at 7-5, the game went to overtime. G2 failed to score in overtime and NAVI closed the map 16-12.

b1t closes the match with a post plant in which the player displayed excellent control over his AK spray to eliminate three opponents.

Inferno

In Inferno, the story was different in the series between G2 and NAVI for the BLAST Premier Spring Groups. G2's good record on the map was not affected in this match.

G2 started well by taking an 8-4 lead in the first half. However, even with the result tied at 9-9, G2 stood out, winning 13-10. The standout duo once again was w0nderful and m0NESY. Both with important kills for their teams in the victorious rounds.

Inferno was always going to be a relatively easy victory for G2 considering their past history. And now with the series tied at 1-1, we move on to Anubis as the final and decider match of the series.

Anubis

In the deciding map, NAVI started on the t-side and opened up a 7-5 lead in the first half. After the pistol won in the other half, G2 tied the score.

G2 turned the result around after being on the t-side, with NiKo's contribution with two clutches. First in the pistol, postponing the defuse to Mihai "iM" Ivan, then in the post-plant in the first buy round of NAVI.

Despite this, NAVI was undeterred and returned to lead the result. The team even closed the map and the series 13-9. The highlight was Mihai 'iM' Ivan who finished Anubis with 24/8 KD. The Romanian player was crucial in the 10-9 round, in a 1x3 situation by protecting the bomb from being planted. The round was crucial for the pace of the game, allowing NAVI to close the match.

G2 CS2 roster:

  • Nikola 'NiKo' Kovač
  • Ilya 'm0NESY' Osipov
  • Rasmus 'HooXi' Nielsen
  • Nemanja 'nexa' Isaković
  • Nemanja 'huNter-' Kovač

NAVI CS2 roster:

  • Ihor 'w0nderful' Zhdanov
  • Justinas 'jL' Lekavicius
  • Valeriy 'b1t' Vakhovskiy
  • Mihai 'iM' Ivan
  • Aleksi 'Aleksib' Virolainen
