The Play-In Stage is coming to an end.
IEM Katowice 2024 is one of the biggest Counter-Strike events of the year. The tournament brings together the best teams from all over the world and for fans, it is almost as big as a Major. This year will be the first time that Katowice will feature Counter-Strike 2 at the Spodek Arena. Here’s all you need to know about the event including the participating teams, format, and more.
The event kicks off on January 31 and will continue for twelve days ending on February 11. With three stages of competition, the Spodek Arena will play host to some exciting Counter-Strike early in the year. Twenty four teams will compete for a million-dollar prize pool but also, more importantly, the title of winning Katowice.

What is the tournament format?
Play-In
The Play-In features a double elimination bracket where all opening matches are best-of-one. While the opening matches might seem harsh, there’s some consolation as teams can redeem themselves in the subsequent matches. All remaining matches are best-of-three series.

- All remaining matches: Bo3
The top eight teams will advance to the next stage - The Group stage.
Group Stage
The Group stage features sixteen teams, including eight from the Play-Ins and eight directly qualified teams. The sixteen teams form two groups of eight teams each. All matches are best-of-three series.
The teams will compete in a double-elimination GSL format Group stage. The winner from each group advances directly to the semifinals. The second-placed team goes to the Quarterfinals as the High Seeds, while the 3rd placed teams advances as Low Seeds Quarterfinalists.

Playoffs
The playoffs will have six teams including the two direct semifinalists. The matches are best-of-three (except for the Grand Finals which is a Bo5 series). All matches are elimination matches, which means teams have to put their best showing every single time.
