FURIA and G2 on flawless runs at the Budapest Major. One to be interrupted
To be crystal clear, only one match was potentially challenging for G2 and FURIA at the Counter-Strike 2 Budapest Major. FURIA faced NAVI in Round 1 — well, the potential challenge turned out to be stomping dominance for FURIA. They lost no rounds in the first half and won that match with a 13:2 on Nuke.
All the other opponents have an estimated lower level.
FURIA on a mission
- FURIA defeated Imperial in Round 2. They had an excellent first half again, 11:1, so FURIA advanced to this match with a 13:5 on Dust II.
Ahead of the Major, FURIA won a few tournaments, including Intel Extreme Masters Chengdu 2025 and BLAST Rivals Fall 2025 in Hong Kong.
G2 back in form?
G2 Esports had a chance for similar dominance in their Round 1 match.
- In the first half on Mirage, G2 was at an 11:1 lead against Passion UA. The opponents made the gap smaller at the end, 13:7.
- paiN Gaming could be named a bigger danger, as this team reached the top 4 at the Austin Major. However, their decision to skip tournaments for preserving VRS points affected paiN’s competitive form. G2 won with a 13:8 on Dust II, having a nice 9:3 lead in the first half.
This season, G2 won BLAST Open Fall 2025 in London. It was rather a spike in overall shaky tournament performance. They were in the top 11 at the EPL Season 22, eliminated by 3DMAX in the final Swiss Stage round. On a positive note, G2 Esports defeated FURIA back then, with a 2:0.
The two remaining Swiss rounds of Stage 3 at the Budapest Major 2025 happen over the weekend, Dec. 6 and Dec. 7. After a small break, the best CS2 esports teams of this season play the biggest matches: the Playoffs start on Dec. 11.
