A failed comeback quest: FaZe barely survive at BLAST Rivals Spring 2025

The tournament did not start well for both teams. One still can recover. Who gets their tickets home on Day 2 of CS2 BLAST Rivals Spring?

FlyQuest started the event with a pretty difficult match. Facing Spirit is a hard task, and the team couldn’t do much in that battle. Their next opponent is of the same level. FlyQuest should find a special approach to the elimination match vs FaZe Clan if they want to make it out of the Group Stage at BLAST Rivals Spring 2025.

For FaZe Clan, the tournament also delivered a mighty blow. They lost to Team Falcons, so FaZe players risk being out of BLAST Rivals quickly and abruptly. Such a result feels rather an unlikely outcome.

The match between FlyQuest vs FaZe Clan definitely brought us surprises. FlyQuest treated the viewers to an excellent CS2 esports show!

Game 1: Two phases of Inferno

The map started off more than smoothly for FaZe. On the CT side, they were killing their opponents while laughing. The first half ended with 9:3 in favor of FaZe, and no one expected any meaningful resistance.

It turned out FlyQuest is willing to battle! Their CT side play was remarkable. The game suddenly fell apart for FaZe, and the teams were one point away from overtime.

Only a miraculous push on A Side helped FaZe Clan avoid embarrassment.

Game 2: Crazy overtimes on Nuke

FaZe did it again — and not in a good way. They finished the first half 9:3 and then made their fans suffer up to 22:18.

Or rather, FlyQuest suddenly started playing as if there was no tomorrow. They destroyed FaZe’s economy and won lots of brilliant rounds. They lost, and they are out of the BLAST Rivals Spring 2025. But thanks to this match, FlyQuest won many hearts of CS2 fans.

“I feel relieved; it feels good. We had a big advantage on T side (on Nuke), some struggles around, and we ended up winning. That’s all that matters. I think FlyQuest had a good gameplan. We kind of got unlucky in some of the rounds, but they also came out hitting hard. They were rushing and popping on us [...]. We just have to believe harder, Everything is ok. We are winning; the rounds are good. Yeah, there are some miscommunications happening, but it’s also kind of PTSD in some of those rounds [...] It’s something that we have to overcome.”

“Right now, it’s a bit all over the place [in my mind]. We played pretty intense games, with a lot of back and forth going on. My biggest takeaway is that communication was very frantic. Apart from that, we just need to watch it back and review. I think most of our results recently were slightly exceeding expectations, but not meeting ours. We just need more time. [...] We are aiming for a good round at the Major.”

Heading to CS2 BLAST Rivals Season 1: FlyQuest vs FaZe Clan match preview

Head-to-Head: FlyQuest 0-6 FaZe
Last Meeting: FlyQuest 0-2 FaZe @ ESL Pro League Season 20 (9-13 on Anubis, 11-13 on Ancient)

FlyQuest had a promising win in the previous big CS2 esports event, IEM Melbourne 2025. They defeated Virtus.pro. However, even the home ground (for most players) couldn’t help FlyQuest in their other matches: against Team Vitality and NAVI.

In general, the team lands outside the top 10 at S-tier tournaments. FlyQuest President Chris "PapaSmithy" Smith hopes to break this trend. Losing to Team Spirit wasn’t a breakthrough start to BLAST Rivals Spring 2025.

FaZe Clan is not in the state you would expect to see such a team. They started 2025 with the top 8 placements at IEM Katowice and Melbourne. PGL tournaments went better for FaZe: they were 4th in Cluj-Napoca and 3rd in Bucharest. The fans sure hope for more.

The opening loss to Team Falcons should shake FaZe Clan a bit. No more mistakes allowed!

The Playoff matches of CS2 BLAST Rivals Spring 2025 start on Friday, May 2. Teams that finished the Group Stage 2nd and 3rd face each other in the quarterfinals. FaZe Clan plays against MOUZ — it's the second match of the day.
