What are the Criteria for a Wildcard team selection?
BLAST had some set rules for the selection of a Wildcard team. A team is eligible for a Wildcard slot if they comply with the following:
- It includes at least 3 players who individually were members of a top 8 Roster on the VRS at any time during the preceding 12 months or,
- It has won any Tier 1 event in the 12 months preceding the announcement of the Wildcard Invite.
The announcement post acknowledges that only Team Falcons satisfies these criteria at the moment. The next available teams in the VRS have received an invite to the planned Wildcard invites.
What is the BLAST Bounty Tournament all about?
The BLAST Bounty Qualifiers will have 32 teams which includes 28 of the top-ranked teams (as per Valve Global Ranking). These 28 teams will be accompanied by the 4 BLAST-selected wildcard teams. These teams have a bounty on their head.
The unique format of the event means that the highest-seeded teams become the biggest targets and have more to lose when the matches get underway. The teams will play in a bo3 single elimination bracket with the first two rounds played online in week one from the European servers.
The top eight teams from these 32 will qualify for the main event in Copenhagen. Taking place in the BLAST Studios, this will be a LAN setting and teams will play single-elimination matches until the Grand Finals. The Grand Finals will be a best-of-five affair.
