The last update for Modern Warfare 2 was on Dec. 14.

The second season of Modern Warfare 2 should be just around the corner, with players anticipating new updates to the game. It's been over a month since the last update to the game, and many players are starting to feel as though updates are needed.

An in-game timer previously showed that Season 1 was supposed to end on Feb. 1. Activision announced on Jan. 18 that the new season would be delayed by two weeks. It will now release on Feb. 15.

"Our studio teams have been making several changes based on what we have heard from our player community," Call of Duty's announcement said. "Season 02 includes all new content, with the return of resurgence and a brand new small map for Warzone 2.0.

"Ranked play is also back and coming to MW2, along with new multiplayer maps, new modes, weapons and much more."

December 14's Season 1 Reloaded update brought the first of a series of Raids to Modern Warfare, which gave players a new way to play the game on top of the already established modes.

Since then, only playlist updates have been available. These updates do nothing except change the modes and maps available for players.

New year, same problems

Call of Duty delaying their Season 2 content is history repeating itself. Last year, during the Vanguard cycle, Activision and the developers also delayed Season 2.

That delay also coincidentally fell on the same two-week period as 2023. Vanguard's Season 2 was pushed back two weeks from the start of February to Feb. 14.

These delays are intended to give developers extra time to provide fixes in the game for issues that have appeared since release.

In reality, it gives them a chance to catch up on missed work that would have been done if not for a break over the holidays.

The game is currently not in a state that was as bad as when Vanguard's Season 2 was pushed back, but there are still complaints from the community.

A clunky user interface and lack of weapon balancing are at the forefront of the issues with Modern Warfare 2. There is also a lack of leaderboards and stat-tracking for Warzone 2.

What content to expect from MW2 Season 2

A new episode of the Modern Warfare 2 Raid cycle will be coming as part of Season 2.

As is the norm, new weapons and multiplayer maps should be coming, too. Leaks for these include the Castle map featured in previous Call of Duty games.

Castle would be an interesting inclusion by Infinity Ward. Sledgehammer Games remastered it last year to include in Vanguard. Having the same map featured in back-to-back titles could be seen as lazy by fans.

The oriental theme of the Castle map is the supposed reason behind its inclusion with the leaks showing that Season 2 will have a Japanese theme. This was leaked during promotional material reveals on Reddit. It showed buildings that were featured in previous versions of Castle.

No information is available yet as to what else will be included in the Season 2 update. There should be at least some quality of life changes also coming as part of the update.

The new update should, at the very least, include changes to the spawn system in the game. It has been causing issues with competitive players since they were changed with the mid-season update.
