OpTic Texas vs. New York Subliners: The Road to COD Champs 2024 Championship Sunday
Professional Call of Duty critics were considerably down on OpTic Texas following an uninspiring performance at Major 4. After a win at Major 3, OpTic bowed out of the tournament in last place, and not many knew what to expect in Allen, Texas, this weekend.
Ultimately, OpTic looked steady on the road to the COD Champs 2024 Grand Finals, dispatching LA Guerillas, LA Thieves, and New York Subliners to solidify a spot on Championship Sunday. On the other side, the New York Subliners defeated Toronto Ultra in the Lower Bracket Finals, guaranteeing a rematch with OpTic.
OpTic defeat Subliners 5-1 to claim the organization's second World Championship
The COD Champs 2024 Championship Sunday vibe felt like the four OpTic Texas players and 8,000 fans were facing off against the defending World Champion New York Subliners. Before the player walkouts, OpTic's last World Championship team of Seth "Scump" Abner, Ian "Crimsix" Porter, Matthew "FormaL" Piper and Damon "Karma" Barlow emerged before the current roster. It was symbolic as OpTic Texas proceeded to dominate.
As the Grand Finals played out, the Subliners won just one map. OpTic looked unstoppable, winning maps one, two, four, five, and six convincingly. It all came down to Control on Invasion, a map that typically lacks excitement, but this was the outlier.
From a stats perspective, MW3 newcomers Pred and Kenny led the way with a 1.10 and 1.07 K/D ratio, respectively. Overall, it was a one-sided affair that saw OpTic Texas snagging the COD Champs 2024 victory.
