LA Thieves recent surge in form could make them a dark horse candidate to triumph at the CDL Stage 5 Major.

We have just over a day to go before we see all 12 Call of Duty League teams in action on the mainstage. And while all the headlines will be about the in-form Optic Chicago and the ever-dominant Atlanta FaZe, there are a few teams that warrant an extra set of eyes. One of these being the revitalized LA Thieves.

Have LA Thieves Found Their Winning Formula?

LA Thieves have been a bit of an enigma in the CDL this season. They were one of the most hyped up teams at the start of the season, but have since been plagued with a variety of issues. In fact Thieves have made more roster changes than anyone else in the league. Yet now it would seem that they have, at long last, found that winning formula. And not a moment too soon in the eyes of LA Thieves fans.

With their current line-up of Kenny, Slasher, Drazah, and John, the team have found their stride especially in hardpoint. Although they sit at a 3-2 record for Stage 5, they have always managed to make their opponents work for each and every point. And while their fans may be a little concerned, given that one of their losses was to the Paris Legion, a team that has already been eliminated from playoff contention, they have managed to pull themselves out of some nail-bitting matches against NYSL and Optic Chicago.

The only other major concern regarding this Thieves team is their rather dismal control record for Stage 5; currently sitting at 2 - 3, with all of their losses being a 3 - 0. If however, they can touch up their control game, then the Thieves should be more than a match for whoever they face this weekend. Otherwise both the Thieves players, and their fans, could be faced with a lot of cagey moments as they look to unseat the big boys of the league. Truly making them a dark horse team.

John To Be The X-Factor For Thieves

It goes without saying that John has made a huge difference for LA Thieves at a crucial point in the season. Since being signed to the starting roster at the beginning of Stage 5 he has made his presence known in every series so far. He has made a number of contributions at key moments for his side, including this insane play against the Paris Legion in a tense game of Search & Destroy.

The Thieves faithful will be hoping that this continues to be the case as we head into the second major LAN event of the season; the first one to have fans present since the start of the pandemic. The experiences of John and Slasher could be the difference maker for their team's prospects; after all the last time these two played together on LAN they were CWL Champions.

LA Thieves Schedule For Stage 5 Major

LA Thieves will start off the Stage 5 Major against the Toronto Ultra, who they play on July 30. Should they defeat Ultra, this will setup a big match against Optic Chicago, a team that they recently defeated at that Seattle home series.

Regardless of how things go, we are sure to see some lights out Call of Duty from the side of the LA Thieves.
