Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will let you play cross-platform with your friends, no matter what system they choose.
Modern Warfare 2 is a direct sequel to the 2019 reboot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It is the overall nineteenth main installment in the COD franchise and has fans eager to grind it. There are many changes to the gameplay and mechanics compared to previous COD entries. That won't prevent it from launching on multiple console generations, however. Prospective players will be excited to hear that Modern Warfare 2 will be cross-platform in terms of both play and progression.

Modern Warfare 2 fully supports cross-platform play
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC through either Steam or Battle.net. Recent Call of Duty titles enabled cross-platform play and Modern Warfare 2 will be no different. You will be able to party up and play the extensive MW2 multiplayer modes with anyone on any of the available platforms.
This means you might run across mouse and keyboard players if you're playing with a controller, and vice versa. There might be a player running around with aim assist. Or with the ability to control their movement with their whole arm. If you're playing alone, you can go into the settings to disable crossplay. That makes it so you're only up against players using the same input.

Cross-progression is available in MW2
Sony and Microsoft both offer cross-generation bundles that allow MW2 to be purchased for their previous and current consoles. You'll be able to start the game on PS4, for example. Then if you upgrade to a PS5 during Modern Warfare 2's lifespan, you can sign in to your linked Battle.net account and continue right where you left off.
Full cross-platform support for Modern Warfare 2 means full cross-progression. All of your blueprints, Operator skins, Calling Cards, unlocked attachments and rank will carry right over to the next platform. The ability to play and progress across every available platform is one of the reasons Call of Duty has retained its success over the years.
