The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 perk system update has not been a hit with players thus far. Here’s why.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been a polarizing experience for the CoD community thus far, with many feeling the game caters to casuals and has been ignoring complaints from competitive players. Now, players are calling out Infinity Ward over the new perk system early into the beta.

Why are players frustrated?

In Modern Warfare 2, Perk Packages have four perks: two base, one Bonus, and one Ultimate. Like previous titles, players can pick these four perks in the Gunsmith but now players earn each of their perks throughout the course of a match. The perks are also no longer active all the time — instead, they're charged up and become available at different times.

Based on a player's performance, they can decrease the time it takes to earn a perk in a match. Getting kills, assists, and capturing objectives are some ways to unlock perks faster. By the end of the match, players should have all four of their selected perks unlocked.

The new Modern Warfare 2 perk system has left the community outraged. Players only have two perks for the first half of the match, meaning they have to spend that first half trying to unlock their Bonus and Ultimate perks, which are much more powerful. This leaves players unable to play how they want from the start of the match.

Even more frustrating, some players end up not unlocking the other two perks at all. If a player joins a match that's already in progress, they won't be able to get the Bonus or Ultimate perks in time.

Prominent Call of Duty leaker TheGhostOfHope said that the time and score-based portion of the perk system should be removed. Others have said that developers should just use the old perk system from previous games, which includes three perks for each class.

Many have called out Infinity Ward on Twitter, demanding they change up the Modern Warfare 2 perk system. A lot of people have expressed frustration that the developers are not listening to feedback from competitive players. Infinity Ward has yet to respond to the ongoing frustration with the perk system update.

Meanwhile, there are some players that like the new perk system since it rewards skill and kills. They remain the minority, however, as more and more complaints roll in before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's looming launch date.
