The developers of the upcoming shooter explain their ideas behind one of the zombie maps.
Upon the release, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has two maps in its zombie mode. One of them is Liberty Falls, based on a small town in West Virginia. And the other is Terminus — a prison island somewhere in the Pacific. Thanks to a recent video from the game developers, we can take a closer look at Terminus and have a glimpse of what it’s like to battle zombies in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Terminus, a zombie map in CoD: Black Ops 6
The breakdown of one of the biggest round-based zombie maps in the entire Call of Duty: Black Ops series was published on the official YouTube channel. A few key people in the development explain what to expect from the intense action on Terminus.
Kevin Drew, an associate design director, says that the events on Terminus happen in the early 1990s, five years after everything highlighted in the zombie mode of Black Ops Cold War. The main location is a tropical island, and players can see other, smaller islands around in the sea.
Antony Saunder, a senior lead designer, mentions two areas on Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Terminus. It’s a jail, as the island is basically a prison. And also, the map has a secret research facility, where weird experiments have created zombies.
Yui Somrit, a senior artist, talks about the atmosphere on the map. The chaos of a zombie outbreak should be felt on Terminus. And the players can feel how realistic everything around them is.
Jaelene Sanche, an associate game designer, highlights some elements of CoD: Black Ops 6 Terminus that should make the world alive. For example, players will encounter huge tubes with zombies inside that start chasing anyone who comes too close.
Making the world filled with events even without the players’ presence is generally a great idea. Terminus has NPC guards still battling zombies. The undead enemies carry traces of their origins. Were they created in experiments or converted by other zombies?
The size of Terminus in Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is a remarkable feature, as it gives players a space to explore. Various vehicles are available here, even boats.
