Which developer created Apex Legends?

Apex Legends is one of the most popular battle-royale shooters in the world. The game has released 19 seasons, 24 Legends, and four maps since it debuted. But which developer made Apex Legends and when did it come out?

Apex Legends was made by Respawn Entertainment, a triple-A game studio founded in 2010 by Jason West and Vince Zampella. Soon after the company was founded, Titanfall debuted and the rest is history. This was followed by Titanfall 2, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and of course, Apex Legends. The studio was acquired by Electronic Arts (EA) in 2017.

Apex Legends was developed shortly after Titanfall 2 came out in 2016. After the success of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) at the time, some Respawn developers created their own battle royale with their signature Titanfall mechanics. Once the studio felt that a third Titanfall game wouldn't work out, they pivoted to working fully on Apex Legends. Some key aspects of the Titanfall games were left out, namely the titular Titans, as well as wall-running.

From as far back as 2016 to 2019, about 115 developers worked on Apex Legends until its release.

Apex Legends released in February 2019 with only six Legends and one map. The original six Legends are Bangalore, Lifeline, Bloodhound, Gibraltar, Wraith, and Pathfinder while the original map is, of course, Kings Canyon.

Since 2019, Respawn has consistently released new seasons for the game roughly every three months. The first season of Apex Legends brought the massively popular Octane to the Apex Games. Most of the seasons since have added a new Legend, though sometimes they opt instead to bring much-needed changes to the game.
