The white whale of the Outlands might just be a blue Nessie.

UPDATE: Blue Nessie has been found! To unlock this final Nessie, you’ll have to toss a throwing knife up into the air and headshot the middle dummy. It has to be a headshot that kills the dummy, simply hitting it on the head won’t work. After that, Nessie will spawn on the Crows Nest above the spawn tunnels. Finally, our collection is complete.

Season 17 of Apex Legends has just been released and with it came a lot of awesome changes! New ranked system, a crazy new Legend, and a wholly different Worlds Edge. However, none of that matters.

All that matters is Nessie.

Specifically, the blue Nessie. In the new Apex Legends firing range, there are some Easter eggs that players can find while they practice their gun skills. So far, we’ve been able to find twelve of the Nessie’s scattered around the firing range. There’s one missing and the combined efforts of the internet have not been successful in tracking him down. Here we’ll break down what we know about the blue Nessie in Apex Legends, what’s been tried, and how the community is reacting.

What we know about blue Nessie

Blue Nessie is real. Basically, that’s all we know right now. One of the Apex Legends devs who worked on the new firing range has confirmed the existence of blue Nessie but has otherwise been tight-lipped about its location. In fact, only a few devs know about blue Nessie, which probably means the Respawn Discord is on fire right now. Additionally, the dev confirmed that you can find all the Nessie’s by yourself or with friends in the firing range.

We can assume that there are some in-game requirements needed to spawn blue Nessie. Unlike the green Nessie’s that simply sit around the firing range, the gold and pink Nessie do not spawn until the player completes some tasks in the firing range. A few simple steps will spawn the gold Nessie, while pink Nessie requires 100 kills to spawn.

What's been ruled out?

Since the pink Nessie spawned with 100 kills, it’s reasonable to assume the blue Nessie has a similar requirement. The esports.gg staff has spent some time in the firing range and we tried a couple of things:

  • Shooting all of the targets in the firing range did not spawn blue Nessie
  • Neither did reaching a damage dealt threshold.
  • We tried 50,000 damage, but it’s possible that the threshold could be even higher.
  • Other possibilities could be a higher damage number or maybe shooting every target with a specific gun.
  • It would also be extremely on brand for the requirement to involve the Mozambique in some way.

None of the Nessie’s need a specific character to unlock them, but this one could possibly tie into some sort of Wattson or Crypto lore. The real-life blue Nessie plushie has Crypto’s symbol on its tag, which could be a clue. The blue Nessie was also spotted on Crypto's desk in his Stories from the Outlands trailer.

How's the community dealing with this?

So far, the community is united in hunting down the blue Nessie. Though, they are becoming a little desperate since there’s been zero progress in the search.

With the devs keeping quiet and the hunt ongoing for the foreseeable future, we have no idea when the blue Nessie will appear. However, as soon as that dastardly little guy shows his face, we will provide updates here on where to find him.
