Wxltzy teams up with fellow countryman Zer0.
Team Falcons have officially announced the signing of Wxltzy and coach Dragur ahead of the ALGS Championship. This follows a previous announcement that Genburten and zz would be departing the side.
This is another huge signing for Team Falcons. Wxltzy has a very strong LAN record, finishing 10th in Mannheim and 4th in Los Angeles. He becomes the third player on Team Falcons to have held the IGL position in his own right.
Team Falcons sign Wxltzy, breaking up 'super team'
This signing, which was heavily rumoured in recent days, is a huge moment for ALGS esports. The last three months have been dominated by Team Falcons and 'super team' talk. How are Falcons doing? How much pressure are they under? Who can beat them? All attention has been on this roster.
They set incredibly high standards for themselves, and ultimately fell short. It's not yet clear what has brought on this roster change, but 20th place at the ALGS Split 2 Playoffs was far below expectations. However, their performance in the Split 2 Pro League and Esports World Cup was absolutely in line with what people expected from this side.
As a result, lots of fans have been questioning the move. There is no doubt that Wxltzy is a talented player, but Genburten is arguably one of the most talented and flexible players in the world and would improve essentially any roster. With that said, there is not yet confirmation that Genburten was dropped. He may well have chosen to go on his own, and seek a new team. Stay tuned for more updates.

Team Falcons are still a force to be reckoned with
While the 'super team' label might be retired with the departure of Genburten, this is still absolutely one of the strongest teams in Apex Legends at the moment. Wxltzy brings heaps of experience, and is a player that Zer0 has expressed desire to compete with for some time. As a player with IGL experience himself, this roster now has heaps of knowledge and firepower. The dynamics will be interesting. Quite who anchors from this trio is yet to be seen (if anyone anchors at all!) but the fear factor certainly has not departed just because Genburten has.
Team Falcons certainly will have a point to prove in Japan. You are only as good as your last result, and finishing in 20th place is absolutely not an acceptable performance for this side. Team Falcons will be reassured that the meta we saw in Mannheim, which was not well suited to the team, should be well out of the picture by the end of January.
The mid-season patch has already shifted it some, and with not just Season 23 but several other updates to come before the ALGS Championship, it is very likely that we will see a different meta emerge over the next few months.
There are several other ALGS roster moves afoot. Genburten has already confirmed he is teaming with iiTzTimmy and Dezignful. Gild has joined NRG, and Lou has teamed up with Zachmazer on E8. Stay tuned to esports.gg for full coverage of the ALGS.
