Spacestation Gaming have dropped their Apex Legends roster just days after winning the ALGS Split 2 LAN. The organisation pre-agreed to part ways with their Apex Legends roster ahead of the event due to internal issues. The team wished to make changes or disband, according to SSG CEO Shawn.

Phony is expected to leave Koyful and Xynew for the ALGS Championship, having posted and deleted an LFT tweet already.

Spacestation Gaming drop Apex roster

This news, while perhaps understandable from the organisations perspective, is potentially one of the most shocking roster moves in Apex Legends history. No team has ever been dropped less than a week after winning a major LAN title.

It is understood that the internal issues relate to issues between the three players. Sources tell esports.gg that it was already decided that the team would not move forward together. This is now backed up by the statement posted by SSG's Unit today. It seems that these problems stem from a poor EWC performance, finishing 17th. With rosters already locked, there was no time for changes between events. You might have been forgiven for thinking a LAN win could repair these tensions. However, it seems that the relationship was too far gone.

In addition, sources also add that StrafingFlame could be set to team up with Koyful and Xynew for the ALGS Championship. Legends Gaming disbanded immediately after the LAN finals concluded. StrafingFlame went on to express his desire to move to North America and compete.

Koyful stood in for Legends Gaming at the ALGS Split 1 Playoffs in North America, with the side performing well and finishing in fifth place.

Spacestation Gaming to re-enter Apex ahead of Champs

Spacestation Gaming will look to pick up a new team ahead of the ALGS Championship in January 2025. Organisation CEO posted the following statement on Twitter.

I would like to address the situation surrounding the release of our Apex Legends team since it might come as shock to everyone. During EWC, it was brought to our attention that the team was going through internal issue and they would like to make changes or disband.

Rosters were locked for ALGS Mannheim so we all mutually agreed that this would be their the last event as a team together. We were also aware that the ALGS Championship was being pushed to 2025, and our contractual agreement with the players would expire at the end of 2024.

We spoke with the players about an extension but they wanted to keep their options open after the major and we agreed to release them as soon as the event concluded so they could move to new teams.

I want to thank Phony, Xynew and Koyful for putting their differences aside and giving it one last push and finishing it off as champions. I wish them nothing but the best and I hope they find the same success wherever they land. I would have loved to run it back but that’s how it goes sometimes in esports.

As for SSG, we are not done with Apex Legends. We will be looking at options for a new team for Worlds and the 2025 season.

Now, ALGS fans will have to wait and see what happens to Xynew, Koyful and Phony over the break between events. Importantly, two players are required to remain on a team to maintain their ALGS Playoff points. That should see Xynew and Koyful stay together, if they want to compete at the ALGS Championship together.
