Take an exclusive look into the creation of the ALGS Open Trophy.

The brand new ALGS Open event and format needed a brand new Trophy. Months of design work culminated in a truly unique trophy that splits into three different pieces, symbolising the three players per Apex Legends team. The final trophy, brough to life by Volpin Props is truly one of a kind.

esports.gg got access to behind the scenes documents, showcasing the journey towards the final trophy design. esports.gg also spoke to EA's Senior Brand Marketing Manager for Apex Legends Esports, Jasmine Chiang about the trophy.

ALGS Open Trophy was a team effort

Jasmine explained why the ALGS team felt that they needed to do something different for the winners of this event:

"With the ALGS Open being a totally new event for us, it didn't feel right to go with the playoffs trophy or the champs trophy. It really felt like this event deserved its own. It was pretty fun getting to start from scratch, ideating with the team.

"The design was a combination of me, our programme management team, our designers on the respawn side working together to come up with this idea. It was in one of the brainstorms where we were like, what if we made this into three different pieces that came together to form one.

"It felt like there was a lot of symbolism behind that. An Apex team coming together, to win it all. If you have three pieces, it could look great in an orgs office or teams could even take a piece home each. It felt like a really unique idea."

Exclusive look at the ALGS Open Trophy concepts

The team then produced multiple different designs for the trophy, with the team going for something that was still "in the ALGS trophy universe" taking design elements from the existing Playoffs and Championship Trophies.

The attention to detail in the trophy creation process is immense. From the trophies silhouette, how it looks on camera, how it will feel in the eventual winners hands, even how it would look in someones stream background.

Once the design was set, the team then picked from a range of colour options to find the perfect look for the trophy. The team explored a huge range of different options, colours, tones and finishes.

This process of concept, iteration and design took several months. The ALGS team were working on the ALGS Open Trophy even before the ALGS Year 4 Championship kicked off in Sapporo, Japan.

"You really want something that represents the ALGS"

Some fans might be surprised at the attention to detail and care that goes into the trophy for an ALGS event. Jasmine explained why getting this right is so important to the ALGS team.

"Everyone is coming here to compete for this trophy, for those rights. You need to do it justice. This is the bright, shiny thing that shows up in our social media assets, in our broadcast assets. You really want something that truly represents the ALGS and it's something that people desire. I want people to look at that and be like, yeah, I can't wait to win that. I can't wait to lift that trophy."

The iconic and unique three-piece ALGS Open Trophy will be lifted for the first time later today. The final 20 teams go head to head to become the first ALGS Open Champion with games kicking off just after 4 p.m. Central Time.
