“Group Stage team” no longer.
Alliance won a marathon the Apex Esports World Cup. The roster of Unlucky, Hakis and Effect have shaken off several LAN disappointments to become the games first ever LAN winner from the EMEA region.
The finals was the joint-longest in Apex history, and the longest on LAN ever. It took a huge 13 games to find a winner.
Alliance shake off "Group Stage team" label at the Esports World Cup
Alliance have consistently been amongst the best teams in Apex Legends since the game's inception. No matter the roster, no matter the format, they have always been amongst the best.
However, they have never managed to grab a LAN win. Strong performances in the early rounds have never translated into a LAN victory. Alliance had a surprising record of only reaching Match Point as a winner was crowned.
But, with the firepower since they added Unlucky to the roster has reborn this roster. Hakis is one of the games most veteran players, and has adapted and transformed as a player no matter what the game has thrown at him. Every meta, a deluge of teammates, several incarnations of every map and every game mechanic.
No one could deny that Alliance deserved a LAN win. Now having shaken off their LAN 'curse' at the Esports World Cup, can Alliance go back to back when the ALGS returns in Mannheim in just a few weeks time?

Apex Esports World Cup Finals are one of the longest ever
Even taking into account the higher 60 point threshold, this Apex Esports World Cup Finals was one of the longest Match Point events in the games history. The Match Point format has been controversial over the years. However, there is no doubt that it is among the best formats of any esport.
Chances to win came and went for several teams. Aurora made a bizare decision to leave the high ground in game 11, Team Liquid couldn't make Barometer height count, dying after the zone forced them off the tower.
The Match Point format brings out the best in teams. Both EXO and Luminosity Gaming made fantastic plays to extend the tournament further and further, both grabbing wins when left as the last non match point team alive.
Twisted Minds pull off the impossible
However, nothing will ever come close to Twisted Minds comeback in match 12. They managed to respawn two of their three players in the end game, stabilise, then win the game.
An elongated 1v1 between Fuhhnq and Genburten gave Twisted Minds the space to fully reset. They then made light work of eventual winners Alliance, and had a three versus two against LG to extend the tournament to a record breaking 13 games.
