ASIAZXD of the Gen.G Esports Apex Legends squad thought he was playing the wrong game – here’s why he kept playing.

Gen.G Esports' Papangkorn "ASIAZXD" Pattarawonghan thought that Apex Legends might have been the wrong choice. He shares why he stuck around and more during an exclusive interview amidst the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) Year 5 Championship.

The Thai Apex Legends squad under the Gen.G banner made it to the ALGS Year 5 Championship grand finals. Oblivion lifted the trophy, and Gen.G finished in 15th place out of the 40 teams in the event.

The all-Thai squad composed of ASIAXZD, Jirayut "Z1CKKY" Apiwongngam, Lertpong "Dexter" Nakurai, and coach Titinan "Templex" Chansap used to be signed to the Italian org Mkers before forming GREEN STEGO in late 2024.

They were then picked up by Gen.G Esports ahead of the 2025 Esports World Cup.

The South Korean organization is the biggest one that ASIAZXD has been a part of in his entire career. "Gen.G helps us in all the aspects, from the bootcamp to shouldering the costs. We just come here to play. The support makes the performance much better."

"To be frank, I first thought that I was in the wrong game, because Thailand had less fan support for Apex Legends compared to other regions," ASIAZXD confessed. "I was so proud and happy when Gen.G picked us up, so I'm always going to do my best."

"When I started playing Apex Legends, it was not popular in Thailand. But, I still kept playing, because if it wasn't Apex Legends, then it's nothing else," he continued. "I don't know what other games I would be playing."

Gen.G Apex meets their fans

Despite the smaller popularity of the title in his home country, ASIAZXD still gets some energy from his fans. "Fans from many other countries make me feel really proud and give me the strength to continue playing."

A part of the ALGS Year 5 Championship Fan Zone involved meet and greets, where fans can interact with their favorite pros.

"This was my first meet-and-greet, and my first time meeting the fans. I was very very happy and I want to thank everybody who came and met us," ASIAZXD said. "Thank you so much."

Gen.G Esports Apex Legends competes in the APAC South region. On ASIAZXD's wishlist for the region are two things: Better visibility of their games and more support in terms of promoting the region. ALGS Year 6 is set to bring new things into motion for the region that may help turn this wishlist into reality.
