Meiy has been shining in VCT Pacific: Stage 2, quickly becoming a VALORANT player to watch. But what sets him apart?
Ibuki "Meiy" Seki is a 22-year-old Japanese VALORANT player competing for DetonatioN FocusMe (DFM). Just last week, Meiy skyrocketed to the top of the Global ACS leaderboard with an impressive 280.2 ACS, making him the only player from the VCT Pacific region to hold a spot there. So, why should we be watching him closely?
Who is Meiy?
In 2020, while he was still in high school, Meiy formed his own VALORANT team called Nester. In a live stream, he revealed he didn't interact much with people at the time, so he sent Masato "thiefy" Tsujita and hatty messages on X, inviting them to play. Together, Nester won the VALORANT TechnoBlood Climber Series #5, a tier C competition.
One year later, he joined Northeption, a Japanese esports organization, where his performance brought him recognition in the Asian VALORANT scenario. So, in 2022, Meiy joined Crazy Raccoons. He played for them until Dec. 2023, when DetonatioN FocusMe brought him to the VCT Pacific main tournament.
DFM has not stood out for making big performances in the VCT Pacific, but Meiy has been popping off. The man is proving to be an incredible duelist during VCT Pacific: Stage 2. So far, DFM has only lost to Paper Rex, the winner of VALORANT Masters Toronto. In their last match against BOOM Esports, Meiy ended up with 305 ACS and a 43/29/8 KDA. In the global K/D board, Meiy stays only behind Georgio "keiko" Sanassy, from Team Liquid. He is also the player with the most match MVP titles during the VCT Pacific: Stage 2 so far, assembling three.
On July 17, against the ZETA Division, Meiy scored 509 ACS, 302 ADR, and 50% headshots, which are insane numbers to reach in a competitive tournament.
Meiy has earned high praise from casters and VALORANT analysts alike, often hailed as the "future hope of Japanese VALORANT." Clinton "Paperthin" Bader described him as having otherworldly mechanics, exceptional instincts, and outstanding playmaking ability.
