VALORANT’s 29th agent has been revealed, and he is called Veto, an anti-utility powerhouse set to redefine the meta once again.
Veto is set to join VALORANT as the 29th agent. Hailing from Senegal, he takes on the role of a Sentinel, defined by an extraordinary DNA mutation that grants him unmatched resilience. In a meta where abilities often decide each match's outcome, Veto came to shift the balance.
Who is Veto?
Riot Games revealed Veto as the 29th agent joining VALORANT. He will take the Sentinel role with a kit focused on defense and securing the sites.
Nicolas Smith, one of Veto's game designers, explained that Veto's kit is designed for teams that prefer a strategy focused on holding sites rather than frequently executing retakes. "In addition to the systemic changes we have made, such as reducing utility sizes, Veto provides an agent-specific toolkit to help players control and defend sites more confidently," he added.
According to Smith, Veto is a bold and daring character, highly adaptable to nearly any challenge on the battlefield. His kit focuses on responsibility and powerful repositioning options, especially through his teleport, providing escape routes when situations spiral out of control.
In his ultimate form, Veto transforms into a dark, glowing blue figure with radiant eyes. He exudes confidence alongside a dangerous hint of brashness. When his power peaks, nothing else matters. Victory depends entirely on precision, accuracy, and who truly has the sharper aim.
Changing the meta
Even with a defensive-focused kit, Veto can be played in surprisingly oppressive ways. “Veto can function like a traditional Sentinel, but players can also take a more aggressive approach to create space and make plays,” Smith explained. The game designer believes Veto will “shake things up, particularly in how teams approach utility.”
As a direct answer to a meta built around heavy utility usage, Veto challenges players to rethink how they deploy their abilities. He promises to change the flow of the game entirely and shift the meta. Veto will be released in VALORANT on Oct. 10.
