TL knocks out EDG in first elimination match at VALORANT Champions 2025

It’s the last dance for TL and EDG at VALORANT Champions 2025, with one advancing and the other exiting first.

Their last chance at VALORANT Champions 2025 has arrived, and only one team will keep the dream of Playoffs alive. Team Liquid (TL) and EDward Gaming (EDG) know each other better than most, and now they meet with everything on the line.

TL, the VCT EMEA Stage 2 champions, come in under the guidance of a seasoned leader, while EDG, the reigning Champions 2024 winners, are chasing back-to-back titles on the biggest stage. One will move forward. One will fall short. Who will rise?

Both teams enter this match after tough defeats. EDG fell 2-0 to NRG after an incredible comeback from the NA team, while Team Liquid was overwhelmed by a relentless DRX that gave them no room to breathe, also losing 2-0. Now, redemption is the only path forward.

TL vs EDG: The last dance at Champions 2025

TL’s Ayaz "nAts" Akhmetshin and EDG’s Wan "CHICHOO" Shunzhi have shared heartfelt moments in VALORANT, especially after CHICHOO revealed he was a longtime fan of the TL star. But at Champions 2025, only one of them will stay in the race, while the other will pack their bags.

This marks the third meeting between the two squads: one win for TL, one for EDG. On Sept. 19, we get the decisive rematch in this rivalry, and their final shot at keeping the Playoffs dream alive. The winner won’t be through just yet, but will earn the right to fight DRX for the last ticket to the next stage.

In an interview with esports.gg during the VCT EMEA Stage 2 Grand Finals, TL’s nAts revealed he hoped to face EDG at Champions 2025. What he didn’t expect was that the clash would come in an elimination match.

TL vs EDG at Champions 2025: Match recaps

Be sure to check back here for all the match highlights as the action unfolds.

Map 1

There isn’t much to highlight about the first map. Team Liquid struggled under pressure from the start, and a long tech pause after the opening round only added to the disruption, with nAts visibly frustrated by equipment issues. Even when the second round was replayed, it didn’t change the course of the game.

Map 2

The second map told a completely different story. Team Liquid came out of the break looking like a new team, and leading the charge was nAts, who delivered a phenomenal performance. He dominated the server with an outstanding 27/7/0 scoreline, easily standing out as the most impactful player of the match. EDG looked lost on this map, committing crucial mistakes that ultimately cost them what could have been their ticket to the Playoffs.

Map 3

The final map was an absolute banger, one of those Champions clashes where a single mistake could decide who advances to the Playoffs. Team Liquid reset and came back stronger than ever against the reigning 2024 champions. But EDG simply couldn’t find an answer to nAts, whose performance as IGL was nothing short of out of this world. Even with overtime, EDG couldn't change their destiny and will no longer be at Champions 2025.
