If you’re trying to play VALORANT on Windows 11, you might get the error message telling you secure boot needs to be enabled.

There are loads of reasons why VALORANT won't load on your computer. A common issue is that you need to enable secure boot for VALORANT. A message will pop up saying the current build of Vanguard, the Riot anti-cheat, requires a secure boot to play.

Let's go over what exactly it is and how you can enable it.

What is secure boot?

If you haven't updated from Windows 10 to Windows 11 yet, then you're in luck. The secure boot isn't needed for your build of Vanguard. Those of you with Windows 11, however, this is something you need to be familiar with.

Secure boot, in order to play VALORANT, is a security technology for Windows 11. Alongside TPM 2.0, think of them as the impenetrable fortress wall to ensure safety for not just your computer, but the programs you run on it.

How you can enable secure boot to play VALORANT

If you're getting the message to enable secure boot for VALORANT, it's super easy to do so even if you aren't too tech-savvy. It should be running automatically, as this is how Vanguard ensures your computer is safe enough to play its game. You know, no cheats or anything crazy like that.

But if for whatever reason it isn't, just follow these steps:

  1. Power down and reboot your computer
  2. Identify the key you need to use to open your BIOS during boot up and press the key
  3. In your BIOS settings, select the Secure Boot option
  4. Choose to enable Secure Boot
  5. Make sure to save your settings and wait for you computer to restart

That will fully enable secure boot for you to play VALORANT. You won't get that pesky error message any longer.
