Greater Essences are among the most valuable resources in The Forge, used for everything from upgrading weapons and gear to selling them for in-game currency.
Farming lots of Greater Essences in The Forge is relatively easy, especially if you know where and how to obtain this rare type of essence item. If you're a newbie, we highly recommend that you finish all the quests in Stonewake's Cross first, as you don't need Greater Essences yet at this point.

How to get Greater Essence in The Forge
You can farm Greater Essences by defeating various enemies in the game, particularly those found in the Forgotten Kingdom’s mining areas, the Ruined Cave, and the Goblin Cave.
Here is a list of enemies that can drop Greater Essence upon defeat:
- Deathaxe Skeleton (1 in 8 chance)
- Elite Rogue Skeleton (1 in 6 chance)
- Elite Deathaxe Skeleton (1 in 6 chance)
- Slime (1 in 10 chance)
All skeleton enemies can be found in the Ruined Cave, while slimes appear exclusively in the Goblin Cave.
The Volcanic Depths is the prime spot to farm Greater Essences, thanks to multiple spawns of Elite Rogue Skeletons and Elite Deathaxe Skeletons. Both enemies have a 1 in 6 chance to drop a Greater Essence, but the Elite Deathaxe Skeleton is easier to defeat due to its slow and easy-to-dodge heavy attack animations.
For lower-level players, the most efficient way to farm Greater Essences is through the Deathaxe Skeleton in Ruined Cave’s Ashen Passage. Be careful when fighting NPCs around this area, as it’s also filled with Blight Pyromancers that can damage you from afar.
Best Armor and Weapon ingredients in the Volcanic Depths
Most NPCs in the Volcanic Depths can drain your HP quickly, making it easy to die if you don’t have top-tier gear and weapons crafted from the game’s rarest ores.
For crafting a weapon that can deal lots of damage against skeletons, consider using Rivalite, Fireite, Eye, and Demonite ores. And for your gear, you can craft some from Obsidian, Mythril, and Darkryte.
All the ores mentioned above grant traits that significantly strengthen your character in combat, boosting your stats and making skeletons far less threatening than before. Using a powerful race also helps, with Demon, Dragonborn, and Minotaur being the top choices.
