Pokémon GO Unova Tour Special Backgrounds explained

The Pokémon GO Unova Tour: Global debuts a brand new set of Special Backgrounds into the game. These Backgrounds can be on Reshiram, Kyurem and Zekrom - and follow a week of backgrounds during the Road to Unova event. There are also additional Pokémon avaliable in Field Research that can have Backgrounds.

These Backgrounds link into the brand new Kyurem Fusions, with there being some potential for combining the different Special Backgrounds. It is a bit confusing at first, so we have broken everything down you need to know right here.

Here is a full breakdown of what Backgrounds are avaliable and how they work across the Global Unova Tour.

There are two ways to get Special Backgrounds during the Global Unova Tour this weekend. There is a Black themed and White themed Background avaliable.

Here are the methods:

The Enigma PokéStop Field Research gives you a guaranteed Special Background encounter. From Raids, just like you may have encountered this week, getting a Background is a random chance.

Across the Raids, Reshiram and Zekrom can only have one of the two Backgrounds each, with Kyurem able to have either Background:

You can combine these to get a special variant background. To get this, fuse a Zekrom or Reshiram or that has a Special Background with a Kyurem that has a Special Background of the opposite color, the fused Black Kyurem or White Kyurem will have the special variant background.
