Looking for some Fossil Pokémon to train?
Do you want a Tyrunt, an Amaura, or an Aerodactyl? Regardless of your choice, it’s actually easy to get and even farm their Fossils in Pokémon Legends: Z-A!
While they are usually overshadowed by more powerful Pokémon, such as the legendaries and pseudo-legendaries, Fossil Pokémon remain highly sought-after by many Trainers for having cool designs and unusual type combinations.
If you need a unique Rock-type attacker to ace the Z-A Royale, here’s how you can get the Fossil that you want, including how to turn it back to life.
How to get Fossils in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
Unlike past Pokémon games where you hunt Fossils deep in caves or hand them off to a lab coat in the wild, Legends: Z-A simplifies the whole process. You can just walk into a shop on Lumiose City’s Vernal Avenue and purchase one right away.

This particular shop is called the Stone Emporium, situated near the chain of boutiques where you can buy new clothes for your character. As the name suggests, Stone Emporium sells various stone items, such as Evolution stones, Mega Stones, and Fossils.
Here, you can purchase the following Fossils:
![]() Jaw Fossil 20,000 ![]() Tyrunt | ![]() Sail Fossil 20,000 ![]() Amaura | ![]() Old Amber 30,000 ![]() Aerodactyl |
Apparently, Old Amber costs a bit more than Jaw and Sail Fossil, as it can turn into an Aerodactyl upon revival, whose Mega form is available in the game.
Farming Fossils in Legends: Z-A
To get as many Fossils as you can, all you need is tons of Pokémon Dollars. Fossils never run out of stock so long as you have enough money.
To accumulate large amounts of Pokémon Dollars, keep defeating Trainers in the Z-A Royale and buy a Gold Canari Plush, which increases the prize money you receive from battles. You can get Canari Plushes by giving Colorful Screws to the guy outside the Racine Construction headquarters.

How to revive and Shiny hunt Fossil Pokémon in Legends: Z-A
Once you have the fossil(s) that you want, head over to the Pokémon Research Lab (the same place where you can find Mable) and go to the laboratory on the second floor.
There’s a guy here named Reg, who can help revive your Fossils, but you can only access his service once you complete Side Mission #27, entitled “Restored from a Fossil.”
This mission only requires you to buy either a Jaw or a Sail Fossil for him at the Stone Emporium.
Shiny hunting Fossil Pokémon
The method for obtaining Shiny Fossil Pokémon is quite different from the main method used for Shiny hunting Pokémon in the Wild Zones.
Just buy lots of Fossils and go to the Pokémon Research Lab. Save your game before talking to Reg, then start reviving every Fossil you’ve collected. If you don’t end up with a Shiny, simply reload your save and try again. You’ll reset to the moment before revival, with all of your Fossils still in your satchel.
Keep repeating this process until you end up reviving a Shiny Fossil Pokémon. Based on a Reddit post by a player named Dan_Galactic, it took him 500 Fossils before he got a Shiny Tyrunt, which he then evolved into a blue-colored Tyrantrum using this method.
Expect a long grind if you’re hunting a Shiny Fossil Pokémon, since Shiny odds remain notoriously low. Luck plays the biggest role here, but with enough patience, you’ll eventually score one.
