Kubfu is in Pokémon GO, but can you evolve it?
The Season of Might & Mastery in Pokémon GO brought Kubfu to the game. By now, most Trainers will have either one of two Kubfu depending on if they purchased the paid Research Ticket that was avaliable. In the mainline Pokémon games, Kubfu can evolve into one of two forms of the powerful Pokémon Urshifu. This is either the Rapid Strike or Single Strike form.
We saw these Pokémon teased in the Might and Mastery promotional material, so Trainers are keen to get their hands on these Pokémon.
So, here is everything you need to know about evolving Kubfu in Pokémon GO.
How to evolve Kubfu into Urshifu in Pokémon GO
To evolve Kubfu into Urshifu in Pokémon GO, you will need 200 Kubfu candy. This might seem a high bar, however there is Kubfu candy included across a range of Special Research at the moment. In addition, you can either walk with Kubfu or use Rare Candy if you want to top up your candy total.

However, at the moment, you cannot evolve Kubfu into Urshifu in Pokémon GO. Everything is in the files for both versions of Urshifu to become avaliable, it just hasn't been enabled yet.
This isn't the first time we have seen this in Pokémon GO. It was handled the same way with Cosmog. The Pokémon was initially released via Research at the start of the season, with the ability to obtain Solgaleo and Lunala unlocked later in the season.
It seems that we will be able to get both forms of Urshifu in Pokémon GO during this season. It will be unlocked later on, after Trainers have had more chances to get candy.

Don't overlook Power Spots to get yourself some additional Kubfu candy. After a Dynamax or Gigantamax Max Battle you can leave a Pokémon at a Power Spot. This Pokémon will then earn additional candy as other battles take place.
Kubfu in Pokémon GO is a Dynamax Pokémon. That means you can tag Kubfu into your battle team and then leave it at that Power Spot. It isn't a very useful Pokémon till you evolve it, so it won't be missed. This will then earn you up to five candy, which over time will be very useful for when you can evolve Kubfu in Pokémon GO later this season.
