New to Community Day's this year are encounters with the featured Pokémon with a Special Background in Pokémon GO. With Sprigatito being the first Community Day Pokémon of the year, this is our first ever chance to get a Background on Community Day.
However, it can be a bit of a mystery to track down exactly how to get Sprigatito with the Special Background in Pokémon GO. So, we've gathered all the confirmed methods so you can focus your efforts in the right places during Sprigatito Community Day.
How to get Sprigatito with the Special Background on Pokémon GO Community Day
Sprigatito Community Day provides the same Community Day gameplay Trainers know and love, with an additional bonus. Now, you can encounter the featured Pokémon with a Special Background, that is themed to the current Season of Pokémon GO, Dual Destiny.
However, not all Sprigatito can have the background. You cannot catch it in the Wild, and you will only be able to find it via a few methods. So, here are all the ways to get a guaranteed background encounter.
Field Research
The following Field Research Tasks will have a guaranteed background encounter:
- Win a five-star or higher Raid
- Trade a Pokémon
- Complete 3 Party Challenges

Special and Timed Research
Then, there are also more encounters avaliable through the Sprigatito Community Day Special Research, and just like December 2024's Community Day there will be a Timed Research that requires you to catch Pokémon over the course of the next week.
The Meowgical Occasion Research costs $1.99 (or local equivalent) and awards three guaranteed Background Encounters across the two pages. The first encounter appears after completing the first page and then the second final encounter is there for completing page two. You get other encounters with Sprigatito, Floragato and Meowscarada but these do not have the background.
Sprigatitio Community Day Continued will grant you three more encounters, one after 2 days, another after four and then a final one for completing the Research.
