What is the gacha game everyone has been talking about: Love and Deepspace?

Love and Deepspace has been outselling gacha games with a strong position within the community like Zenless Zone Zero, Honkai: Star Rail, and Genshin Impact. But what exactly is Love and Deepspace, and why are people so interested in it?

Love Depspace is a mobile game under the Chinese game developer InFold, the same company as Infinity Nikki. It was globally released on Jan. 18 but has been making a huge fuss on social media. "Love and Deepspace allows you to step into a sci-fi world where love knows no bounds. With immersive cutscenes, 3D storylines, and interactions, love is truly within reach!" as we can read from its description.

This is an otome, a genre of games directed to the feminine public where the main goal is to create a relationship between the female character and one of the various male characters in-game. In October 2024, the game had 14 million downloads and $196 million in revenue.

The game is available for Android and iOS. Here are the specifications.

Love and Deepspace storyline begins in 2048 when you, the protagonist, complete your exam to be a Wanderer hunter. These monsters entered Linkon City in 2034 when a strange tunnel opened and connected your world with the Deepspace. In that year, many people were killed by the monsters, including your family. You were the only survivor.

Being a Hunter is now a job in Linkon City, and your objective is to kill the monster and retrieve their PROTOCORES, a source of energy crucial to the city. However, some hunters have special powers: the Evolvers. They're the strongest. There are four types of Evolvers: Psychic, Elemental, Simulation, and Anhausen (the only one in this category is the female character). The male characters have either psychic or elemental skills.

To know more about the storyline, you need to complete various quests. During the quests, you'll get to know various male characters and create a bond with them. As a gacha game, you can wish for Memories that are collectible moments you can use in your combat team or interact with on special story dates.

Xavier is an official Deepspace Hunter and a very mysterious guy. Constantly on his mission, saving people and fighting monsters, he's the first one you'll encounter in the game. He's 23 years old and 6’1”. Some people think he might be much older, like over 200 years old. As for his birthday, it's stated to be Oct 16. He is an Elemental Evolver that controls the element of Light.

Rafayel is an artist. He owns an art studio in Whitesand Bay and loves to see the ocean and eat seafood. According to his friend, he’s a bit forgetful and loves a good bath. Rayael is also afraid of flying. He's 24 years old and 6'. His birthday is on Mar. 8. He is an Elemental Evolver that controls the element of Fire.

Zayne is a cardiac surgeon at Akso Hospital. He's very serious and has a very reserved personality. He’s an excellent surgeon in his field, having won various awards, and he's currently working toward lowering heart defects in newborns. He seems to be a tough guy, but he has a good heart, after all. Zayne is 27 and 6’1''. His birthday is on Sept. 5. He is an Elemental Evolver that controls the element of Ice.

Sylus is a "bad boy": arrogant, confident, and too calm in the middle of dangerous situations. He's a villain and the leader of Onychinus. The rumors said he built his empire on illegal Evol weapons and Protocore deals. He's 28 years old and 6'2 feet tall. His Evolv is Energy Manipulation.

Caleb is the most recently introduced character in the game. He is a skilled fighter pilot and a childhood friend of Zayne. He works for the Deepspace Aviation Administration (DAA) in Skyhaven, an artificial floating island hovering near Linkon City. Caleb is 25 years old and 6'2 feet tall. He is kind, tolerant, and playful, often teasing the protagonist, but in the middle of the story, he is revealed to be much more. His Evol is Gravity Manipulation.

More characters will be added in the next months, so don't be sad if you don't feel much connection with the ones in-game already.
