Can Thaddius Warlock counter the Frost Death Knight decks dominating the Hearthstone ladder? Let’s find out.

With the February Hearthstone season close to the end, everyone is looking for a Hearthstone deck to climb up the ranks. Otsuna seems to have found one deck to fight against the current Hearthstone Frost DK tyranny, Thaddius Warlock.

Is Thaddius Warlock the new Hearthstone meta-breaker deck?

Aggro-Frost Death Knight's supreme power is undeniable. However, one deck seems to be doing pretty well against it. Thaddius Warlock is the new version of the Undead Warlock deck, improved after the Return to Naxxramas Hearthstone Miniset release.

While this deck isn't good all around, Vicious Syndicate, a Hearthstone stats site, mentioned that: "it actually does fine into Frost-Aggro DK." And this is not only theoretical. Otusna piloted the deck to Top 50 ladder, beating 9 Death Knights in a row.

While the sample size might be small, if you are facing a ton of Frost DKs, you can try this deck to climb the Hearthstone ladder. And also, I must admit, it's a pretty fun archetype to play.

How does the deck works?

Thaddius Warlock, or Chaddius Warlock for the cool kids, tries to cheat out the new Return to Naxxramas featured legendary in the mid-game to create an unstoppable board state. The deck revolves around Amorphous Slime, a card from the last March of the Lich King Hearthstone expansion, and its Undead synergy.

By far, Amorpehus Slime is the card you want in your opening hand. If you play it on curve, discarding either Thaddius or Flesh Behemoth, will make it hard for you to lose. Hearthstone is all about mana cheat these days, and this deck found a unique way to do it with Undead synergies.

The deck has a plan b, to add redundancy and consistency on discards with Dar'Khan Drathir and Rivendare, Warrider. These legendaries can serve as alternative win conditions in some specific matchups but are not key elements in the deck.

Stats don't show that the deck is overperforming, however, Hearthstone should release a balance patch soon, and it might push the archetype a bit. Vicious Syndicate states that Thaddius Warlock, while it isn't a good deck, is not that bad either.

"It doesn’t seem that far away from being competitive, and the featured build has Tier 3 potential, but it’s still missing something. It’s a fun deck but don’t expect a consistent level of performance."

VICIOUS Syndicate about Thaddius Warlock

Have you tried this archetype or suffered against it? Do you think Otsuna is a Thaddius Warlock god or has just found a deck that worked well at top Hearthstone legend? Time will tell since the end of the season is coming.
