It is shaping up to be an amazing year for gaming, so we are looking at the top 10 games coming in May 2025.
May 2025 is set to be yet another amazing month for gamers. From a few extremely exciting and hyped games to some obscure titles that could offer hours of fun, the month has something for everyone. In this article, we will look at the top 10 game releases for May 2025 that you should add to your library.
May 2025: 10 of the best games coming your way
In the list below, we will examine the top 10 games releasing in May 2025. Counting down from 10 to the number 1 game, the list will be measured by player interest and hype. So, without further ado, let's get this show on the road.
10. Metal Eden

According to the Steam page for the game, Metal Eden is “an adrenaline-rush sci-fi FPS.” Breaking that down, the game is a first-person shooter set in a futuristic environment with fast-paced action. On the back of that, the game’s demo feels similar to the original Doom titles crossed with a bit of Halo and Unreal Tournament.
The trailer gives us a great look at the game, but it lacks a lot of the draw that other FPS titles have. Even with that being the case, the game has a significant following already on Steam and could be a hit. From the trailer and demo alone, the game has the feeling of Armored Core: Asset Management — the exciting Episode 8 in Secret Level. Although it may not have Keanu Reeves or flying mech-suits, it gives off the same feelings of sci-fi dystopia.
Release Date: May 6
Platform(s): PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC.
9. Revenge of the Savage Planet

Back in 2020, Journey to the Savage Planet was released. The game blew audiences away with beautiful world design and fantastic gameplay experiences. In May 2025, the sequel will release, with Revenge of the Savage Planet.
Players who enjoyed the first title are excited for the new release, but something that has thrown off many is the change to a third-person perspective. With that said, the World Reveal Trailer from 2024 excited players globally with its fun and interesting look at the alien world. From the looks alone, the game should be just as magnificent and enjoyable as its predecessor.
Platform(s): PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC.
Release Date: May 8
8. Capcom Fighting Collection 2

While not necessarily a single game title, Capcom Fighting Collection 2 (CFC2) continues along the path of releasing many of the older titles in the game’s franchise for people to play on modern gaming platforms. Officially announced in August 2024, CFC2 will feature a host of titles in the Capcom series.
- Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 Pro
- Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001
- Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein
- Power Stone
- Power Stone 2
- Project Justice
- Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper
- Capcom Fighting Evolution
Although this may not be as hyped up with the fighting game genre being fairly niche, it is definitely something worth looking out for, considering the value.
Platform(s): PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch.
Release Date: May 16
7. Sonic Rumble

Party games come and go, with titles often releasing to a few weeks of interest before being forgotten by most. However, for Sonic Rumble, this might not be the case. After SEGA acquired Rovio Entertainment in 2023, this will be their first Sonic the Hedgehog title, and it looks to take on some of the best in the genre. For those who enjoy the likes of Mario Party, this game is almost the same, but instead of Mario's World, you’re in Sonic's World.
With up to 32 players battling it out through various mini-games, Sonic Rumble could put Mario Party and other party-game titles to shame by being free-to-play. While there will be a lot of microtransactions, it is to be expected in games such as this, and will hopefully be purely cosmetic.
Platform(s): PC, Android, iOS.
Release Date: May 8
6. Blades of Fire

A few games have flown by under the radar this year. Blades of Fire (BoF) is one of them. BoF is slated to be an action-adventure title. However, from the announcement trailer in February, players have picked up a bit more. The game plays more similarly to God of War, which is something that can be seen in the gameplay trailer below, with subtle hints of Black Myth Wukong and Elden Ring thrown into the mix. But do not go in expecting a Souls-like experience.
BoF, in general, has various features. The most exciting of these is the weapon system. This system involves both crafting a weapon through The Forge and choosing the right weapon depending on your enemies. All-in-all, there seems to be some hype for this title online, while its release date could play against it in the grand scheme of things.
Platform(s): PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC.
Release Date: May 22
5. Out of Sight

Atmospheric horror titles are often extremely entertaining. Add in the bonus of puzzle-type adventures and a solid story, and the games become addictive once you get started. Out of Sight, previously titled “Unseen,” is one such upcoming title. The game puts you in control of Sophie, trapped in a haunted mansion. Although the trope may be outdated, this game has an interesting twist.
In Out of Sight, your character is blind, but you rely on a teddy bear to guide you through your escape. With foes around every corner and a unique second-person perspective, this game is on the radar of many. To make it even scarier, the game will also be releasing in Virtual Reality (VR) – for those brave enough.
Platform(s): PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Nintendo Switch.
Release Date: May 22
4. The Midnight Walk

From one horror title, we jump to another. Although also releasing with VR, this one is vastly different. The Midnight Walk brings us into a dark horror setting via clay animation, bringing the horrors that haunt you to life. Everything within the game was first made in clay before the 3D animation artists took the time to build a game around it.
What this brings us is a game that looks and feels like the horror elements within are even creepier, which makes for an amazing title. For the game itself, you follow the adventures of “The Burnt One” and find a lantern creature named Potboy along your travels. Think of a dark version of LittleBigPlanet or a single-player version of It Takes Two. The Midnight Walk has caught the attention of many and should be an exciting, creepy journey.
Platform(s): PS5, PC.
Release Date: May 8
3. Lost Soul Aside

Having been in development for over 10 years, Lost Souls Aside is finally set to release in May 2025. The game, which features a hack-and-slash style combat system, takes inspiration from Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy titles, and that is plain to see from the trailer alone. Originally, the developer worked alone on the title before Sony Interactive Entertainment saw his creation, and everything moved forward from there.
Within the game, you will take control of Kaser as he defeats the enemies who have captured his sister, on his mission to save her. With heavy role-playing game (RPG) elements and a shape-shifting dragon to fight alongside you as your weapon, Lost Soul Aside is a passion project that is set to take May by storm.
Platform(s): PS5, PC.
Release Date: May 30

A special mention of a title devoured by a sandworm
Before we get into the top 2, both of which are extremely exciting titles, we have to give a special mention to Dune Awakening. Originally set to release in May, the developers decided to push the survival massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) back to put a bit more work in. With that said, Dune Awakening looks as though it could be one of the biggest releases of 2025, with a huge amount of interest in the game and the amazing stories behind it.
2. Doom: The Dark Ages
Alexa, please play "Rip & Tear" by Mick Gordon.
Clocking in on the second spot on the most hype game releases for May 2025 is Doom: The Dark Ages. For those who love the franchise, this is definitely going to be a hit, while also bringing in a whole bunch of new players. As a veritable prequel to the 2016 Doom title, The Dark Ages has a slightly different feel than its predecessor, Doom Eternal. More similar to the recent Warhammer 40,000: Space Marines 2 title, The Dark Ages takes combat to a more grounded level, in more ways than one.
Melee combat is the focus, with a Sheild Saw at your side and a slower pace in general. Although some have berated the game’s change of style, the new Doom title will still have the same amount of gore, and the added bonus of getting to pilot an Atlan during some sections of the game.

As it is essentially a prequel, the story side of the game is far more in-depth, as we find out why the Doom Slayer is who he is.
Platform(s): PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC.
Release Date: May 15
1. Elden Ring Nightreign
A drumroll is not necessary here. We all knew what would be in the top spot.
At the top of our list is none other than Elden Nightreign. Ever since it was announced during The Game Awards 2024, Nightreign has been a hot topic. However, fans of the Souls series and FromSoftware in general have been patiently awaiting their chance to play the new instalment. Nightreign’s major intention is a three-player co-operative mode which bears resemblance to a battle royale game. This makes it very different from the Souls titles or its namesake.

Many have deemed it to be a Roguelike, with players needing to defeat a mini-boss and work together to ensure survivability. With upgrades to unlock and new bosses to fight, Nightreign’s twist on the Elden Ring world is something new to everyone. While the game and this mode could be seen as a risk, it seems as though fans of the previous titles are still chomping at the bit for Nightreign’s release. Unfortunately, we have the whole month of May to wait.
Platform(s): PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC.
Release Date: May 30
As far as the top 10 games of May 2025 go, there are some amazing titles that we are looking forward to. There are many more titles which we have not mentioned here, including some major updates. So, if you are ready to beat your friends in Sonic Rumble. Or prefer to be slain with your friends at your side by the Golden Hippopotamus in Nightreign. May has a lot of games for everyone.
