Find out how to fill up your inventory with Smithing Stones in Elden Ring Nightreign.

There are plenty of items from the original Elden Ring that have carried over to Nightreign. One of those items is Smithing Stones, which you use in the same way in Nightreign as you did in Elden Ring. However, while Smithing Stones are used to upgrade your weapons when you're out on an expedition, they work a little differently in the roguelike version of the game.

Before you get into using Smithing Stones, though, you need to know how to find them when you're travelling the Living Lands. You can see exactly where to find Smithing Stones and how to use them in Elden Ring Nightreign in the guide below.

Fortunately, Smithing Stones are one of the simpler items to add to your inventory when you're on an expedition in Nightreign. There are a couple of different methods to find Smithing Stones, and you can see what they are below.

Buy them from the shop

The first and most direct way to find Smithing Stones is by purchasing them from the shop during an expedition. You can find a few different shops by looking for the ghost of Merchant Kale sitting next to a fire. Merchant Kale is located all around the Living Lands, and he's often next to Statues of Marika, which you can find by searching for the church icon on your map. At Merchant Kale's shop, you can purchase a Smithing Stone [1] for 6,500 Runes, and there are usually a couple of them in stock.

Loot them from dead bodies or chests

The alternative way to find Smithing Stones is by looting them off a dead body or from a chest that you open. I've found that Smithing Stones more commonly come from dead bodies, which you can loot by interacting with bodies that have a white glowing dot on them. When the loot pops out from a body or chest, check the white objects on the ground to see if any of them are Smithing Stones. If they are, then you can add them to your inventory via the item slots.

How to use Smithing Stones in Elden Ring Nightreign

Once you have some Smithing Stones in your inventory, you want to head back over to one of Merchant Kale's locations. Here, you'll find an anvil with a white weapon on it next to the fire, which you can interact with to "strengthen your armaments." This essentially means upgrade your weapons, which you can't do without a Smithing Stone.

At the anvil, you can use your Smithing Stones to upgrade your weapons and items. However, only certain Smithing Stones can upgrade weapons of particular rarities. For example, a Smithing Stone [1] can only upgrade a common weapon, which turns it into a rare weapon. To upgrade a rare weapon, you need a Smithing Stone [2], which is far more difficult to find in Elden Ring Nightreign.

If you have the right Smithing Stones for your upgrade, you can select the weapon you want to strengthen and look at the right-hand side of the menu to see what's being upgraded on it. Usually, your weapons will simply gain extra damage when you upgrade them. If you're satisfied with the upgrade, then press "OK" to upgrade the item, which loses your Smithing Stone in the process.

There are anvils at Merchant Kale's locations, but you can also find one in the room before the final boss fight during an expedition. This gives you one last chance to upgrade your items before heading into your last fight.

Now that you have the Smithing Stones process all figured out in Elden Ring Nightreign, how about next you learn how to play through expeditions as a solo player?
